This is the second post about another edition of the 50 drachmas coin featuring Rigas Féréos an important personality of the Greek Revolution against the Ottomans back in 1821. This coin was made to honor him for his contribution to the Greek Revolution. The previous post featured the Dimitrios Kallergis coin, which was part of the 150th Anniversary of the Constitution Series.
The 50 drachmas coin post is here: My Coin Collection: Good Old Drachmas - The 50 Drachmas Coin

The lettering

Obverse:

ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ = HELLENIC REPUBLIC ΔΡΧ. 50 = 50 DRCH.

Reverse:

ΕΤΟΣ ΡΗΓΑ ΦΕΡΑΙΟΥ·ΒΕΛΕΣΤΙΝΛΗ = RIGAS FEREOS·VELESTINLIS YEAR 1798-1998 = 1798-1998

The coin

Just like all the other 50 drachmas coins I have presented so far, this one is also a Third Modern Drachma coin, from the period of the Third Hellenic Republic. It was minted in 1998 to honor the 200 years from Rigas' death. It is made of an aluminium and bronze alloy, weighs 9 gr, has a diameter of 27.5 mm and a thickness of 2.25 mm.
