50% of the world could earn a living with social media in 20 years

Old habits die hard. Many people are waiting for things to go back to normal or just scrambling to keep their jobs as long as possible, knowing in the background that it won’t be long before automation steals it, or it gets outsourced to whoever is willing to do it for cheaper. Meanwhile all our purchasing power is being diminished by inflation. This is clearly not sustainable.

I don’t think 50% of the population will go homeless, the anger and destruction would be far too much for those in power to feel safe and once they feel they are nearing the last straw of social cohesion, their priority will move towards making sure people haven’t lost all hope in society. As that all happens, some of us will start to realize the inevitable and get our foot in the door early. You already have.

What do we do when society no longer needs the majority of us to function optimally?

We will do what we are doing right now, expressing ourselves and sharing our lives and getting rewarded for it. At the moment, the majority of people have just started considering this, but don’t seem to realize just how close it is. But if you ask kids, a whole lot more of them want to be “social media influencers”, game streamers, creators, youtubers….

The masses still haven’t seen Hive and haven’t realized just how fast the world is changing. At some point Facebook and Twitter are going to try and emulate what we have here. They will try to do it with centralized control, giving the same opportunities that youtube has. It will likely be all the talk for a while and help people see that this is inevitable.

Meanwhile, here we are, a more decentralized approach with far more capabilities. From the masses, more and more will realize they want to be owners of this new society we are building, rather than let big corporations own every last piece of it.

They will continue trickling in.

The big corporations won’t disappear overnight, and there will be other competitors to hive that do much better than the previous competitors have done.

It will start as a fad and then it will continue to grow. Older generations will call it a fad but it will continue to develop.

We will create a variety of new ways to interact and earn a living online, through social media and through crypto, and more and more through a combination of the two.

Some things will seem ridiculous at first, but in time we will get used to all the crazy and some might say meaningless ways to earn a living.

Some great ideas won’t catch on for a while and some terrible ideas will make some people millions.

At some point though, we will search for meaning and as this evolves, I believe it will lead to the monetization of all the good things that were never monetized sufficiently.

If you write and inspire people, you’ll be able to make a living in hive (or possibly some other token), reinvest, grow your wealth and be able to have more influence on the world. Or hopefully you’ll power some of that HP up and be able to influence our ecosystem and support the people who inspire you.

Hive could grow 10x bigger even if Facebook and YouTube and Twitter continue their reign as giants. There will be THAT much room for earning money as a creator. At some point in the next 20 years, that will become the most common way to earn a living.

There will be endless ways to scrape by doing it but you’ll have a few ways to become successful.

  • you could art and blogs and blogs that people love and share. The niches that can support people will be nearly endless.
  • you could build a large network of friends
  • you could do work that is good for the community and get support through upvotes. Imagine monetizing all the work that was previously done as charity by making blogs and vlogs to show your work. Imagine it being just as lucrative as a 9-5 is.
  • you could join a monetized study (or niche) group that rewards you for participation
  • you could do odd jobs around the blockchain. These may pay better than a regular job because many people who are paying with crypto are not living in a scarcity mindset, so they will be more giving if you offer good work.

Of course it won’t all be perfect. New problems will surely pop up. There will be scams, there will be projects that fail, there will be abuse. We will figure it out.

As things change exponentially fast blockchain is going to first transform finance and then quickly move into transforming social interactions and how people organize themselves and express themselves.

While it may be a safe idea to get that degree just in case, you might want to put some energy into building your understanding of blockchain, your presence on social media, and your influence especially Hive which is the most flexible and decentralized and which is leading the way as a community.

For a long time I saw social media as an unnatural move away from real human interaction. Now I’m starting to realize that as it evolves, it’s going to become a means of letting us pursue all kinds of dreams.

I’m not telling you to quit your job. The future isn’t entirely here yet, we are building it now, but you are here, taking a part in this as it unfolds. I have my day job to keep me going in the present and my Hive and other accounts to build my future. I am currently looking for ways to utilize Hive in a future company I hope to build. It’s becoming more and more of a realistic pursuit.

It’s still early here. Things aren’t set up for you to have an easy path. We have to build it ourselves, but there are tons of opportunities here if you are willing to look for them, or to create them.
