Image Good day to everyone here on hive, hope we are all doing great.

Many at times, I have seen many people talk about tertiary education. Many people have clearly stated how important it is to start and complete a degree in college or the university as the case may be while others, especially the young ones do not really see the importance on tertiary education, especially in a country like nigeria.

Some years ago, an undergraduate would be so sure of an employment opportunity waiting for him or her once he finishes his education, he just had to study well and graduate with good grades. But now, the tides have changed. there are no more job opportunities for graduates. Some lecturers now derive joy in frustrating the efforts of the students, either by failing them on purpose so they would have to come back and pay their way through it demanding for sex in exchange for marks, most times, this marks are duly deserved by the students. This attitude is becoming very rampant in my country Nigeria.

I have seen the cases of many students dropping out of school because of an unexpected and unwarranted increase in the cost of education. Fees such as school fees, faculty and departmental dues and other unimportant fees are increased by more than a hundred percent. A high paying school does not determine the level of knowledge passed to the students and as such, fees should be made low especially, in public universities owned by the federal or central government.

Some people go to school now, probably because of their parents. Their parents forces them to get a degree which is against their will. So, they go to school, enjoy the benefits and freedom that comes with it, after the stipulated time, they graduate, without gaining the knowledge they were supposed to. After all, "There are many graduates out there without a paid work."

Many youths, especially the rich ones, now turn to other ways to make money, they turn to crypto currency, forex trading, digital marketing and some other skills that doesn't require passing through the four walls of a university. and these has made them rich while others work their assess off to get a degree they may not use till death.

This is where the question comes in. has tertiary education really lost its value in our present society?

Is there any reason or importance of getting a degree when you can still make it without one?

How can we awake our educational system?

I wrote this using my country, Nigeria in thought. thanks for reading. You can drop your thoughts as comments in the comment section.
