The idea of trying to communicate with relatives or people already deceased sounds somewhat chilling to carry out, since there are many people who either out of curiosity, or in their desperation to maintain contact with people or loved ones who have left this plane, resort to use of the ouija or other means to achieve their mission. The technology that prevails today could make this possible, since the Microsoft company was developing a type of virtual Ouija board called Chatbot.

Chatbot is a type of artificial intelligence that allowed to simulate speaking with present or past entities such as family, friends and acquaintances, even with famous or historical people. The artificial interlocutor had an algorithm capable of analyzing all the information about the person to be communicated through the publications that he left on the web, such as tweets and posts on social networks, photographs, chats, voice messages, demographic data, videos, etc. In this way, the program would simulate all the characteristics of the represented individual, creating a kind of three-dimensional clone for them to speak, express themselves, act, and decide as our deceased friend or relative would. This type of project would have been presented by Microsoft in the United States patent registration office. However, the company decided to be disenchanted with this project as CEO Tim O'Brien stated that there are no plans to further develop Chatbot, as he had recognized that this was a rather "disturbing" idea.

Although Microsoft has no intention of developing the product, the patent is real and exists, in fact it is published on the official United States Patent and Trademark Office site. This patent demonstrates the real possibilities of Artificial Intelligence technologies, since in the text you can read more details about the chatbot such as its use and operation, as well as graphics that explain what this technology consists of.

Is it ethical to launch this type of technology all over the world?

If Chatbot really existed, this would create dependency for millions of people suffering the loss of a loved one. Without a doubt, Microsoft had that in mind, so it decided to reverse the project and modify its guidelines to ensure that the development of Artificial Intelligence follows ethical parameters, as other large technology companies do.
