The Monero community has posted a request to add XMR as a payment option on the Tesla website.

Shortly after Elon Musk's Tesla Motors announced that they might start accepting Bitcoin (BTC) payments for their electric cars, the Monero community suggested that XMR could be a good payment option as well. After posting a proposal on February 9, the Monero community has raised a total of 890 XMR ($ 155,000) in a move to add Monero as a payment option to acquire Tesla vehicles.

As part of the proposal, the community will endeavor to get Elon Musk's attention for a 21-day period beginning February 9. If Tesla accepts the initiative, the community will buy three new Tesla Model 3 vehicles for $ 50,000 each, and these will be donated to three charities selected by that community, through Twitter under the hashtag "# Tesla4XMR." The community has guaranteed to reimburse taxpayers in the event of no response or commitment from Musk within the stipulated twenty-one days of a fully funded proposal.

The effort was supported by a total of just 11 contributors, according to the Monero website. Under the proposal, Tesla fans could benefit from the XMR payment option due to its unique privacy features compared to public and traceable blockchains like Bitcoin (BTC) or Ether (ETH). The community suggested that some Tesla owners would be comfortable making their expensive vehicle holdings more private.

“You wouldn't want your waiter at a restaurant to know the total balance in your wallet when you pay, right? Why should the purchase of a car transmit to the world all the information that is leaked in a Bitcoin transaction ”, the proposal reads. "Also, the effect of showing up to a party in a new Tesla is somewhat diminished if all your friends already knew when you bought it because they were able to see the transaction on the Bitcoin blockchain," the proposal said.

The XMR community is apparently looking to attract a similar momentum, not just for itself, but for the privacy coin space as a whole. However, the proposal comes amid some controversy around the privacy features of Monero and other cryptocurrencies, as the cryptocurrency exchange Bittrex announced a series of delisting last month, mainly focused on the coins of Privacy. The targets included Dash (DASH), Zcash (ZCH), and XMR respectively. All of this led to more exchanges stopping the flow of anonymous tokens by removing them from their lists.

Undoubtedly this news was a blow to a space that was once booming in this type of crypto. Therefore, it could be deduced that Monero is somehow betting that Elon Musk and Tesla can help the rebirth of the cryptocurrency in question.
