Background

I jumped at the chance to learn more about Binance Smart Chain, and invested before I was even air dropped coins. I made at least a dozen transactions until I got stuck. I didn’t have enough BNB to add my Cub Harvest to a pool. I had 0.18 BNB, at the time around 7 dollars US.

So I contemplated the long process of transferring ETH to Binance, buying BNB and using the Binance Bridge to send BNB to BSC. had enough Cub, b-Leo. Torture... small torture, but torture.

Then I had an idea, I only needed 0.02 BNB like 10 cents, surely I could ask someone to transfer me ten cents!

Begging in Discord... yep I was ashamed, but still trying to get two cents without spending 100 times that much to send myself more BNB from Binance..

Tech Support

So I went to tech support...and asked and waited. Then I thought ...Let me see who is still on Discord at 11 PM and if I know them I will ask them.

Friends and acquaintances

I found @edicted and asked him.

His response surprised me, as he commented, sure, but you should be able to send your transaction with that much BNB, the transaction should cost like 60 cents and you have over 6 dollars....

Hmmm now I am thinking...What The Fudge!

Upon his instructions I checked my network fees and indeed they were 7 dollars and some cents. To my surprise he again replied it should be a lot less.

So he advised me to manually adjust the network transaction fee. You know that blew my mind... I can adjust the fees...amazing.

What bank do you know, that lets you adjust the fees they charge you??

But this...is crypto*

Network Transaction Fees

So I clicked on Network Fees. A box opened with two choices Basic and Advanced...of course I clicked Advanced LOL

Another three boxes opened

Low and Behold...I can adjust the fees...amazing. In fact there are three choices, slow, regular and fast. My choices were 7$ 8$ or 9$ Respectively.

Then I saw another button Advanced, and I was now in the clicking mood, so I clicked it...

...and another box opened with two values.

The top Gas Limit, the bottom Gas Price.
My Gas Price was 143, according to @eficted it should be 10.

So I changed it to 11. Pressed save and then pressed confirm transaction.

Cost 95 cents.

Still high, but much lower then 7 dollars US!

I thanked @edicted for being awake and helping me. He is the 50% beneficiary of this post! Thank you very much!

So let’s review this again with pictures!

In the picture you can see the transaction fee the code wanted to charge me was over 8 dollars!

So pressing the blue Efit next to Network Fee Brings up this box, where you can choose slow, average or fast transaction speeds.

But real price adjustment capability is revealed when you press advanced again. Then you get this box:

First look at gas price

So as you can see the gas price default setting is over 100, while on Metamask PC version or Chrome extension it’s usually 10 or 11, two digits only. So it’s ten times higher.

Second look at Gas Limit

As you can see it’s in the hundreds of thousands, instead of the tens of thousands you see on Metamask PC or Chrome Extension version.

So I started dividing the numbers by ten and here I reduce the Gas Limit

And here I reduce the Gas Price

The effect is greatly reduced Transaction Costs.

Trial and Error

I tried this several times, and I was able to get the transaction fees lower many times but the transaction failed. I ended up paying 40 to 60 cents for most transactions, but that is a lot cheaper the 6 to 8 dollars.

And I wanted to share this information with the community because you maybe able to adjust your transaction fees also on your desktop, laptop or phone version of MetaMask also.

I hope you find this useful.
