Displaying the Nativity scene is a loved Christmas tradition for many Christian families, as it is with me. This nativity scene set is a treasured keepsake that I use every Christmas season.

Christmas Nativity Scene

A centerpiece in my family room is the Christmas Nativity scene. It is customary in my home to keep the Nativity scene on display from December 17 until the Sunday after the Epiphany.

While the hustle and bustle of Christmas end for many people on Dec. 26, throughout Christian history Christmas lasts for twelve days – all the way until Jan. 6. This feast marking the end of Christmas is called “Epiphany.” In the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church, Epiphany celebrates the revelation that Jesus was the Son of God. It focuses primarily on this revelation to the Three Wise Men, but also in his baptism in the Jordan and at the wedding at Cana. In the Eastern rites of the Catholic Church, Theophany – as Epiphany is known in the East – commemorates the manifestation of Jesus' divinity at his Baptism in the River Jordan. While the traditional date for the feast is Jan. 6, in the United States the celebration of Epiphany is moved to the next Sunday, overlapping with the rest of the Western Church’s celebration of the Baptism of Christ.

The Nativity scene tradition originated with St. Francis of Assisi in the year 1223 on Christmas Eve. A nativity scene, also called a crib, crèche, or manger scene refers to any depiction of the birthplace of Jesus. Traditionally, the figures in the nativity set are added gradually to recount the historical Christmas story. On December 24th the Baby Jesus is placed in the manger, and the following days the shepherds are added. On January 6th, Three Kings Day, the magi are also added near the manger scene.

Only friends close to me and welcome to the upstairs family room of my home are able to view this Nativity scene. Today, I share it with you, my HIVE family.

Today our Saviour is born. There can be no room for sadness when Life has just been born; that Life which overcomes all fear of death and fills us with the joy of the pledge of eternity.

A Christmas Round

There are countless pieces produced all over the world depicting the true reason for the season. Gold, silver, and copper in coins, round, bars, and jewelry. I will leave you with this round.

One of the earliest rounds from the Silver Bullet Silver Shield collection.

I wish you, each one and all, a Merry Christmas!
