My first season as an imaginary football manager just ended and it was DOPE! My team ๐“Ÿ๐“ฑ๐“ธ๐“ฎ๐“ท๐“ฒ๐” ๐“˜๐“ท๐“ฌ๐“ช๐“ท๐“ฝ๐“ช๐“ฝ๐“ฎ๐“ถ finished as league champion and we are advancing to the higher tier, ready to get our rears kicked :v :v

Here's how the final standing looks for my league.

Let me tell you, it was nowhere near as comfortable as the 6 point lead may make it look like and it was in the penultimate match of the season that I clinched the title.

Halfway into the season I was sitting comfortably at the top with an 8 point lead. But the fall started with a loss against FC Sutlema and a few unexpected Draws. And it got really tight when I lost 3 back to back games and with just 4 matches to go, the team in second position narrowed the gap down to only 2 points.

I was struggling to figure out exactly why I was losing these matches because I played the more advantageous formation compared to my opponents' formation (4-2-3-1 against 4-3-3) and my player stats were better, or at least on par. On top of that, this strategy has been winning most of the games so far in the season, so it was quite mind boggling and the general consensus on the Rabona discord was, it was just down to bad luck.

I couldn't let it ride on luck anymore with just 4 matches to go. So I revisited my strategy. I stuck to 4-2-3-1, because this is still in my opinion one of the best formations to play if you have the players for it. What I changed was the player positions. I was not sure if player position in the blockchain game really matters as much as it does in real life football, and I still don't know. But it seemed to do the trick!

With two more matches to go and the team in second place slipping up in one of their matches, I needed just one more win to secure the title and I was really hoping I could win it with one match to go. That would allow me to go in to a full experimental mode for the final match and some of the players I didn't play much and see how they perform.

But when I looked at the past matches of my opponent in the penultimate match, I saw he plays the 4-2-3-1 format almost exclusively and his formation stats were better than mine. Up until then I only ever played 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 formations but 4-3-3 is weak against 4-2-3-1 and my 4231 is not as strong as his. 4-4-2 is the one that works against 4-2-3-1 and I have never trained of even played a single match in that formation. So the best I could think of was to play 4-2-3-1 and hope for a draw. But I've been saying from day 1, I started with Rabona because I want to have fun. Football, in whatever form it is, is supposed to be fun. Where's the fun in hoping for a draw! So heck yeah I went and played with a formation I never played so far, in the penultimate, potentially title defining match!

And Bingo! The title was secured!

With the title home already, I decided to "rest" 7 of my main team players for the final match. Rest in the blockchain game doesn't really work as the rest in real games. I just didn't wan't any of those players to get injured of blocked by red cards for the upcoming matches in league 1 which starts tomorrow. It also allowed me to look at what sort of training could improve my bench players as I will be needing them in league 1 in case one gets injured or gets a red card.

Financials

Looking at my club's financials, it says I'm at a negative 232,441 RBN this season which is quite good I think, given this was my first season and I had to buy some players and scout to build a team. I expect to be in the negative for a couple more seasons as I continue to build.

What's important is, my player sales almost match up with my player scouting expenses and I consider this to be a profit (despite the numbers saying otherwise) because I did not sell all the players I scouted. In fact some of the players I scouted are absolute essentials to the dynamics of my team. Take my goal keeper Tim Graf for example, who rocks the midfield :D

I am hoping to cut down on player purchase and player scouting expenses if possible this coming season, that should nicely balance the books. Also, I expect my visitor and merchandise income to increase significantly as my totals number of fans went from the low 16k to above 67k by the end of the season.

A fun season to say the least! If you wanna join @rabona, do use my Referral Link. We both get an extra boost of RBN ;)
