If Youth is Wasted...

I've heard an expression that goes something like this...

Youth is wasted on the young.

I believe it's meant to imply the inexperience of youth blinds the young to valuable insights we learn as we age, leading to missed opportunities and mistakes.

However, it does ignore the fact that the young functionally utilize the exuberance of youth to great affect in other arenas.

I think the same thing can be said for the aged.

Experience is wasted on the aging.

Some live an entire life getting so accustomed to doing things a specific way they cripple their ability to adapt and bend.

I spoke to a man today who has to know he's about to lose his dealership (I could see it when I rolled onto the lot) and he still scoffed at the idea of cryptocurrency being a revolutionary technology.

His experience with the stock market 30 or 40 years ago is all he needs to know to decide this is the exact same thing. Within five years that lot will be more or less abandoned and for sale at a price no one will want to pay in that neighborhood.

The son he's been grooming to take over the family business will go to work in a factory or local bar his buddy owns and within a decade he'll have to watch his parents lose their house and move into a rental or small apartment to struggle to make ends meet until they land in a for profit nursing home.

Right now he could likely move as little as 10% of his total worth into just BTC and never have to worry about money again, but he knows better. He learned it in the last century.
