Splinterlands Strategies: Opportunities to Sneak

Snagging myself a brand new Waka Spiritblade a couple of days ago got me thinking.

To use this summoner to its best effect, I need a combination of sneakers, snipers, and opportunist monsters behind the tank, with a scattershot for good measure.

If you’re going to poison the enemy then why not poison the lot?

With Waka being a Death summoner that limits my options somewhat to Death and Neutral monsters.

With this promo card being such a limited release I can’t see a huge rush to suddenly buy out all the Gem Meteors.

For Waka, it has to be Silent Sha-Vi, Mage Necrosi, Gem Meteor, and Lira the Dark. That's if you don't want to dish out a small fortune on older out-of-print (OOP) cards that might require you to remortgage your home.

Using that particular combination with a suitable tank and reach monsters could work.

..'the ultimate backline to accomodate Waka Spirtiblade, mana pending?'...

I have yet to try Waka Spiritblade as alas I am still that greedy slumlord monster baron who rents all his cards.

When Splinterlands make changes to the game, I am already to play again. I can easily change my methods of DEC generation depending on the environment.

When I do play I have a certain fondness for hitting people from behind and right now is a great time to stock up on those nasty sneak and opportunity cards while Chaos Legion is still in print.

Here are a few I have been buying:

Stitch Leech

Stitch Leech is already one of the most expensive commons at 11c. Do you think that's peanuts? When you need 220 of them to get an L8 version then it adds up a little.

What I like about this card is it hits for more than its casting cost. You don't see that very often and that makes it good value.

As low as L4, Stitch Leech hits for 3 with a casting cost of 3. In a game where you need to beat your opponent up, that's an asset.

The fact Stitch Leech is a Sneak card with Life Leech at L6 adds to the value.

I have been picking up Gold versions for around $2 each. Combine just 2 of these and you have that L4 monster that hits as much as its casting cost.

Venari Scout

Perhaps it is because Life is currently Magic strong due to its in-print summoner Obsidian that this common Opportunity card has been largely ignored.

I rate Opportunity over Sneak for obvious reasons. This 3 mana monster hits for 2 at L4 and is attractive in terms of muscle for your mana.

The fact that nobody else appears to notice is a boon, as I have several sets of Venari Scout, both in regular and Gold.

I often see Venari Scout as one of the low-value monsters congregating with those 1 mana monsters that are used as opportunity fodder.

...**'not in the same league, but often are similarly priced. Talk about overlooked'...*

Gold Venari Scouts are around $1.20 right now but I have seen them for around $1. Those are the ones I pick up.

Celestial Harpy

Rare cards are always going to be more costly and Harpies can be picked up for around 24c (Regular) and around $5 (Gold).

I already have my regular one that can be used for play and have been accumulating a few Gold ones.

From L3, Celestial Harpy dishes out as much damage as its casting cost, and good 2 mana monsters are always useful as filler material.

I wouldn’t call the Harpy this, as she is yet another Opportunity monster, this time with built-in flying.

...**'Gold Harpy's can be obtained for under $5, if you are patient'...*

If you play in the lower ranks you will be likely playing bots. Have you noticed that when you face a Life deck, you always see Celestial Harpy and Stitch Leech?

This is because they are efficient cards, efficient enough to kick your arse most of the time.

Other more obvious power cards that fit this topic within the Chaos Legion expansion are Tenyii Striker and Silent Sha-Vi.

If you don’t have these maxed to a level your summoner can handle then you are doing yourself a disservice.

As for Venari Scout. I think this cat-type monster will come good in the future. By that time, it may be another Screeching Vulture, a monster that is now OOP and I remember to be for sale at 2c.

...**'Screeching Vulture, once sent to the dustbin, fed to the cat, used as horse manure are now over $1. I had these coming out of my ears once. I wish I had kept every last one of them'...*

The Vulture is now is over $1 for a single BCX. I own a solitary L8 Gold Vulture and zero regular ones. But don’t listen to me, I’m just speculating…
