Hey hey, it's Friday! I am not keeping count, but I must have done a couple of hundred #followfriday posts. It has become a habit, but I hope it brings some value to others. Hive lacks good tools for user discovery and so it is up to us to promote those who deserve a bigger following. Anyone can do a post. If you do then let me know so I can share it around.

The elephant in the room is the HIVE price, which is as low as it has been since about April. I do not see too many people actually talking about this and that is a good thing as it shows this is not just about hyping up a cryptocurrency. There are plenty of other topics to discuss. We should be concentrating on building the community. It is people that really matter.

The 'other one' is not doing too great either.

What we have to beware of are toxic situations. The freedom Hive offers means that trolls cannot get 'banned'. If they have enough HP they can cause some damage. Although my experiences with the community are mostly positive I have encountered some nasty people. Some enjoy using their anonymity to harass others. It is a shame when they manage to drive good users away. Part of my reason for doing these posts is to build up the positive attitudes that will make Hive an attractive place to be. Trolls will always be a tiny minority and we can drown them out.

I think it is important that we acknowledge the issues Hive has and work to address them. We have something potentially great and it is up to us to make it work.

And so to the business of #followfriday.

  • @dan will be known to you as one of the founders of this blockchain. He left to pursue other projects, but has just done a new post about a book he has written. We can do with influential people from the cryptocurrency world writing here.
  • I see @the-bitcoin-dood is playing with @dbuzz. I think there should be room on Hive for micro-blogging. We could do with a share of that massive market. I think their app limits the rewards, but with so many automated votes some may feel that short posts get over-compensated. That is more an issue with the voting than the dapp. We have to find ways to make it work.
  • Musician @davidfar is posting music reviews that cover a wide range of genres. He also posts his own music.
  • @runningproject is not posting lately, but it does support some of the runners of Hive with votes and re-posts. We have the running community where you can post.
  • @fullalt are behind the HiveTips app that lets you give people HIVE via Twitter and other platforms. They have a funding proposal you can support. This is the sort of thing that can help bring more people to Hive.

What can you do for Hive?

Hive five!
