You don't earn by downvoting, but then it costs you nothing. It may bring retaliation, so you are taking a risk. I downvote when people are being dishonest with plagiarised content, but also when they abuse the system with excessive self-votes. It is up to the community to decide who gets rewards. I know some say self-votes are okay, but we can disagree on that. I just want rewards to go where they are actually earned.
