What Does Hive Mean To Me Initiative: A New System Of Freedom
@theycallmedan put together his first initiative on Hive. Although I am not much of a social media person, I felt this a good opportunity to put together a post about it. We got a reset last week and the questions he poses are a good basis to clarify what I see.
What Is Hive To Me?
Hive is the opportunity to build a platform that equals freedom.
I was a huge believer in the original tenets of Steem. However, that got lost in the quest for power and survival. It was sad to see how the community was sabotaged by a single entity (person).
With the introduction of Hive, we have the opportunity to further the quest for freedom. The present system is one where most of the world is financially enslaved. Hive is the anti-thesis of this. It provides a forum where individuals can come and start building. Whether one is a developer, content creator, gamer, or just someone who likes to socialize, he or she can build. Ultimately, we each become our own businesses.
Hive is a grassroots movement that can change the world. Without a centralized figure standing in the way, the community is free to explore the different possibilities that exist. Through experimentation, we can create a virtual world where all active participants can benefit.
In essence, I see Hive becoming the future.
What Do I Want To See Hive Evolve Into?
I want to see Hive become the platform where people can "make their living".
The original idea of rewarding people for their social media activities still holds strong. That said, things evolved. In the future, I want Hive to be the place where people are able to get rewarded for most of their daily activities. It is an ecosystem that creates money. Unlike the present system, this money is not directed to banks first but to where it can do the most good: the wallets of individual people.
Hive needs to be a place where people can be rewarded for spending time doing what they enjoy. The attention economy is upon us it; thus far, favors the likes of Facebook, Google, and major broadcasters. On Hive, the user is rewarded more so than the platform.
Ultimately, I would like to see millions have the opportunity to make Hive their online home.
What do I think about having a large funded DAO for future HIVE development?
Having a large funded DAO for development (and marketing) is crucial.
I know there are many different view on this yet I feel that all the money in the DAO needs to remain. We no longer has Steemit Inc to fall back upon so that mean the basic coding of the blockchain is up to the community. Blockchain developers are not cheap. Fortunately, we have community members with the skills to handle it. That said, it is not right to expect them to do it all for free.
The same holds for marketers. Those with the skills and expertise in that realm should be rewarded for their efforts. Steemit Inc did absolutely no marketing which ended up hindering the blockchain. Fortunately,we were early in the development game so we had little to offer.
With Hive, we already have more to offer than was ever available on Steem.
Funding development while also providing incentive to outside developers to build on Hive is vital. Using the resources for this purpose will help out the community in a few different ways. To start, airdrops tend to accompany newer projects. We see all the tokens dropped on those holding Ethereum. While many projects fail, having a few tokens in an application that hits could end up being a tidy sum.
The second reason is because each token holder benefits from the expansion of the ecosystem. More developers ends up equating to more projects which, over time, can increase value. We need to keep expanding the offering of Hive to attract a wider group of users.
Having the DAO allows us a means to self-fund the growth of the platform. This is something that benefits each individual holding HIVE.
Hive is the reset most of the community was looking for. It can continue to work to be the decentralized platform the world so badly needs.
