Well Hello There Fellow Technicians And Hivers

I remember mentioning in one of my posts where I said that the cars or jobs have a tendency of coming in, in pairs. Well today was a perfect example of that.

A few weeks ago we had a comeback on a transmission that the head branch or whatever you may call it, head office or what not. Well they rebuilt this specific transmission for us and whelp it turned out to be a total mess, we ended up taking it out again and sent it back to head office. We can build it ourselves the problem is that we paid a lot of money for them to rebuild it.

Today that transmission finally came back.

After it got lost on the couriers and then it got misplaced at the workshop and then they just refused to give us any feedback on it.

The day the customer brought back the vehicle because of problems we told head office that it's best to come fetch the car by us so that when the transmission is rebuilt they can properly test it.

Makes sense doesn't it? Nope they say we are mad and that we should remove the transmission and send it up, no problems will arise.

So we did just that.

Now as always I love sorting my bolts precisely... But today I had this feeling of doing it extra good.

You see the thing is I want this to be done quick and efficiently and as perfect as I can get it.

But what if problems arise?

Sorry for the messy backdrop. Laughs we have a lot of transmissions lying around of customer that don't want to fix and end up never coming to pick them up.

Okay that's besides the point.

So we got the transmission from the couriers today, after a solid month of waiting for it.

It's a big beastly and ugly thing, and it weighs a lot! We need three oaks just to move this and then it's not moved with ease but with a struggle.

But it's here and I'm hoping on it to be working at 100%

Getting her on the transmission jack and under the vehicle was the hard part, the easy part is fitting it back. Although I have to mention a lot of technicians are very afraid of removing one of these transmissions, why I don't know. I've dealt with a few and they are tricky, very tricky but I've learned my way around them.

But as you can see there's a lot going on around the transmission and even more so on top of it.

Whelp, she's all snugged up where she wants to be!

I wont be adding all of the belly plates and fancy covers just yet, this one still needs a test driving. It's a rare thing rebuilding a automatic transmission and getting it right 100 % the first time, well at-least not in my country. We are still way behind on all of the fancy equipment the big boys have overseas.

Mechanical Engineering at it's best ey!

With a already frustrated customer, informing him of some more damage to his vehicle would most definitely not be the cherry on the cake.

However it's what we have to do, I mean after all it's not our fault at all. The water bottle seems to be cracked, it's an odd place for it to crack but that is again besides the point.

The point is that the customer bought this car second hand but it's still a new car to him and from the get go he has been having troubles with it left right and center, which can be more than frustrating for him to say the least.

On top of that, the transmission is still shuddering, so head office did not do a very great job. But when we told them to come fetch the whole vehicle they snugged up their noses.

I mean come on... We've been through this a few times, we know these things like to be a pain in the ass but sending the transmission back and forth on a courier is not the solution.

So what is?

We're not out of the woods just yet, but on a positive note, I was able to get some stuff prepared for tomorrow. We've been waiting for a whole bunch of stuff from the couriers and most of those stuff has arrived today. Such as a radiator on a vehicle which already has it's transmission fitted, so on the morrow we can pop that in and then it's just the brake discs on which we are waiting. Another one where we received a fly-wheel which we have also been waiting on for two weeks. I'll probably write about it tomorrow along with all the other odds and ends!

Have a great one peeps! I'm out!
