It's time for another #crypthursday, that time of the week where I take a look at some relevant crypto facts, news and developments. The main focus is Hive stuff but every now and then I'll talk about other things too if I consider them to be relevant.

I was feeling under the weather for most of the week so I apologize if I missed something huge because I didn't spend as much time on Hive as I usually do.

But anyway, let's get things started!

Blood on the streets: time to go shopping

Source: CoinGecko

Even though most coins are showing signs of recovery in the last 24 hours, this week was brutal for the market in general. A lot of FUD is taking place, doom and gloom are on every corner, causing many people to lose their calm and cash out on desperation.

If you are anything like me, however, you know that this is an excellent opportunity to get some cheap crypto. Just to give an example, RUNE, which is one of my favorites alts, was down to almost 3 USD. When you think that 2 months ago it reached an ATH of 20 USD, it looks like a pretty good deal to me!

Do your own research, always, but just in case anyone is interested, this week I took the opportunity to add some tokens to my holdings, such as LEO, CUB and UTOPIS. I really believe in their long-term potential so I just keep adding when I can.

Axie Infinity community on Hive

Even if you are not an avid gamer, you most likely heard about this hot "new" thing called Axie Infinity. I say "new" because even though it has gained a lot of popularity recently, it's been around for 3 years now.

Axie Infinity is an NFT game similar to Pokémon that allows you to collect pets and battle with them to earn #cryptocurrency.

Many people are reporting real nice earnings on that game, as the price of Axies has been going up substantially and, for that same reason it is becoming harder and harder to get in the game, as the initial investment is also going up.

There are ways to get started in the game without having to pay a thousand dollars or more upfront and that is one of the things that you might be able to get help with by joining Axie Buzz, a community on Hive dedicated to the game!

The community is already a few weeks old but I only found out about it recently, when I came across the announcement post made by their admin @axiebuzz. Whether you are a veteran Axie player that wants to meet others or a beginner looking to find out more about the game, make sure to visit the community and say hello!

A HBD backed project

Fellow lion @empoderat put up a post asking for community feedback on a token linked to his trading profits and backed by HBD. In simple terms, he is looking to create a hard-capped token that relies on profits from his trading, rather than curation rewards.

In addition to it, a significant amount of the fund (at least 80%, according to him) would be converted to HBD and stored in the Savings account, generating interest and keeping it locked on-chain.

I believe this is quite an interesting and innovative idea and I already gave him my "vote". Make sure you check out his post and let him know what you think.

Pick of the Week

In this very interesting post, @rob23 addresses the issue of how getting 40+ people into crypto is an important milestone to the mass adoption of cryptocurrency. The title of his post ("Can I Talk My Parents Into Crypto?") immediately drew my attention, because I'm living that exact same challenge. My dad is in his 60's now and even though he is becoming less and less resistant to technology, #crypto is still something he is very suspicious of. I'm trying to convince him to throw in at least a small portion of his assets into it, but all the FUD that's currently going on around crypto is making this battle a lot harder than expected. I'll keep trying though.

We're almost done with this week's post but not before we announce our pick for this week's #cocktailfriday!

Since I took my first shot of the COVID vaccine earlier this week, tomorrow I'll be making...

The Penicillin

This delicious cocktail is a twist on the classic Whiskey Sour so the two recipes are very similar. Here's what you'll need:

  • 2 ounces whiskey
  • 3/4 ounce lemon juice
  • 3/4 ounce honey syrup
  • 3 slices of fresh ginger
  • 1/4 ounce Islay single malt scotch

Instructions

Put the slices of ginger in a shaker and gently muddle it. Add the whiskey, lemon juice, syrup and ice, and shake until well-chilled.

Note: if you are not used to ginger you might want to use a little less because it bites!

Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice and you are done!

Pro-tip: Garnish with candied ginger if you can get some. This is not mandatory but trust me, it goes REALLY well with the drink!

Now we're ready for the weekend! I hope to meet you tomorrow on our daily @leomarkettalk thread for some drinks and chatter!
