Serious Sam 4 is a continuity bet with a clear philosophy of "if something works, don't touch it" although some mechanics are updated, allowing us, for example, to improve our weapons by adding certain elements that we can find throughout the game while destroying hundreds of enemies with our shotgun, rifle, rocket launcher or any other weapon..

Those of you who already know the saga will know very well his proposal that is none other than facing waves of up to thousands of enemies that will not give us a second of respite, forcing us to run all over the map, many times circling, while we select the type enemy that we must eliminate first, prioritizing on many occasions all those that explode when we die and that, thanks to this, allow us to eliminate a good handful of monsters at the same time.

These shooting moments are the best of the game, having to quickly choose which weapon to use at each moment to kill the monsters effectively and putting our aim and our movement ability to the test not to take damage and try to survive (it will be difficult to the first on many occasions) to these massive waves of all kinds of bugs, each one more crazy and demanding.

Never stop shooting

To help us survive, in addition to a good arsenal of weapons of all kinds and the improvements that we can add to some of them, we will also have the help of certain gadgets that we can use during combats as life enhancers or a holographic image of Sam. that will move around the battlefield distracting enemies and drawing them towards it, giving us a little respite to be able to recover some life or to eliminate a few enemies.

Another point that we can use to our advantage are Sam's own improvements, a not very large but effective skill tree that will allow us, for example, to evolve to obtain life if we melee attack enemies or obtain ammunition, armor or life when we kill them. In addition, within the possibilities that this fourth installment offers us, we can also ride on the back of some of our enemies, taking advantage of when they are stunned, being able to eliminate a good handful of monsters thanks to them.

It should be noted that the performance of the game is practically perfect reaching 60 fps at all times, even if we have the screen full of hundreds of enemies. Likewise, the gameplay mechanics remain the same as the past with a mouse sensitivity that we must adjust well if we do not want to go crazy and a rather fun and entertaining gunplay, the change of weapons at all times and the arsenal provided is an incentive to continue moving forward in history. In such a way, once again we will be able to run, jump and shoot at any angle of the screen in a fast and frantic way that the saga has us used to. In addition, boss battles are a perfect addition to fun, especially with multiple players.

Regarding the sound section, everything has been improved and at the same time it feels more classic than ever, although it is a shame that Sam continues to speak in English despite having Spanish subtitles. The aliens continue screaming as always and will put us in tension during the different acts and there will be no shortage of the classic headless kamikaze bombers. All of this is still supported by a soundtrack that generally complies.

What I think of the game after playing

Serious Sam 4 is a delivery that I am convinced that lovers of the original game will love, offering everything they are looking for, betting on a classic and fun gameplay seasoned with some improvements that suit the formula well but that, for me, they lag a little behind in what such a shooter can offer today.

*Although its proposal is fun, this fourth installment has several errors, such as a level design that is too flat and discreet, errors in the enemy's AI and numerous technical problems and performance drops that we hope will be fixed with the patch, but there are quite a few integers left in the new adventure of "Serious Sam".
