Convert Hive into Food?!

Ever since it was brought to my attention that we can spend Hive for real world things my life has changed (which is without using CEXs or KYC). I literally go to my local supermarket now and pay with Hive for my groceries! How cool is that... and a pitty that I wasn't aware of this for so long (I think it has been possible for about 2 years).

So I am sure you know the problem: you got Hive in your account, but its just sitting there. I mean sure, you might trade it for some Chaos Legion packs in @Splinterlands but it is kinda confined to the digital space. Wouldn't it be great to buy some "stuff" in the real world?

Step by step guide on how to do it

First head over to bitrefill.com and select the country you are in and find the shop you want to use. There are many different categories to chose from. A limitation is that there are not all options available currently. I think they are working constantly on introducing more shops.

Click on the shop. Here I'll use Carrefour, which is a supermarket in France. This will be different for your country.

After that click on the amount you want to gift yourself (or somebody else :) and click "add to cart" as well as "check out" in the top. You don't need an account for this, but I would recommend one as you can then keep track of all your purchases.

Now there are several payment options available. We will use Bitcoin lightning as this is the most direct way to convert Hive into "food". You'll see that this will cost you the equivalent of 87 695 Sats.

Next, we get the Bitcoin lightning invoice "address" to which we will have to send the sats. You can do this with a wallet or manually. I will do it manually here as I don't have a lightning wallet.

Now that we have Hive <> Lightning interoperability we can directly send Hive to a lightning invoice!

Head over to https://lnd.v4v.app/ and copy the invoice into the field here

You now have the options of paying with Hive or HBD. Finally, click on either one and confirm this transaction with Keychain or Hivesigner.

Done! This takes 2-3 minutes and once you do this simply wait a bit for the transaction to come through (to Bitrefill). It makes sense to leave the browser tab open and after some minutes you should get the confirmation in which you can claim your gift card :)
