After almost a year exploring opportunities in the crypto universe and, more specifically, on Hive, I decided that my primary project for this year will be LEO. In this post, I'll share some of the reasons why I made this decision.

I joined Hive in January 2021 on my other account (@tfranzini), and I didn't really understand it at first. After a few weeks of learning a thing or two about the basic concepts of Hive, Blockchain and Cryptocurrency, I found out about this tribe called LeoFinance and that was when things started changing for me.

On LeoFinance, and more specifically, through the Daily Crypto Markets Live Blog (formerly known as Leo Market Talk), I met a lot of nice people who helped me immensely in my journey and from whom I learned, and still learn, a lot about Hive and crypto in general.

That being said, I believe it's only natural that I have a special connection to LEO but, until now, I had never treated it as a priority in my crypto portfolio, mostly because I didn't even have a priority.

However, I've given a lot of thought to my crypto strategy for 2022, and I concluded that increasing my LEO holdings will be my primary goal for this year. In the following paragraphs, I'll share some of the aspects that helped me make this decision.

The LeoFinance team

I think it's a well-known fact that the LeoFinance team is one of the most active teams on Hive. Khal and his team are behind many projects that we all know and love and probably some fascinating stuff that we still have no idea about.

On the odd chance that you have no idea about what projects I'm talking about, here's a quick overview of the more important ones, in my opinion:

We have LeoFinance itself, which is my favourite community on Hive and also one of the best frontends in my opinion (top 3, easily).

There's also the recently revamped HiveStats, a great analytics tool for Hive users and one of the tools I have been using the most.

CubFinance, which is built on Binance Smart Chain, is LeoFinance's DeFi branch and, in my humble opinion, one of the most promising platforms on decentralized finance (wen PolyCub?).

And of course, we have the mythical microblogging platform, (wen) Project Blank, which is still under development and it's taking longer than we would like but is something that has the potential to completely change the way we interact with the blockchain.

There are a few other projects that I didn't list here, but I believe those are more than enough to convey the idea that the team behind LeoFinance has done a lot for Hive and they are only getting started.

Use cases

Use cases are crucial to a project's longevity, and I LEO is a token with many existing and upcoming use cases. For example, you can easily bridge Leo to BSC, getting bLeo that you can then pool on CubFinance or sell it for CUB or any other asset on that chain. Inf act, LEO holders, were airdropped some CUB based on their holdings when CubFinance was released, and something similar should happen with Project Blank.

There are also Diesel Pools on TribalDex if you want to pool LEO and earn rewards based on your stake.

These and other use cases make LEO one of the most valuable tokens on Hive.

The community

I've already stated how fundamental the regular attendants of the Daily Crypto Markets Live Blog have been to my crypto journey but, beyond that, I believe LeoFinance has one of the most passionate communities on Hive. To illustrate my point, let's take a look at the Leo richlist.

I sorted the list by stake and immediately spotted some very familiar faces among the top accounts. If you are a regular here on LeoFinance, you probably know many of these guys.

onealfa.leo does an excellent job manually curating good content on LeoFinance and supporting authors that are committed to the community. If Toruk has ever visited you, you know what I mean.

Taskmaster needs no introduction. He leads the LeoFinance engagement ranks week after week by posting every day and typing literally hundreds of comments.

Edicted is one of the most prolific authors on LeoFinance and a big-time shiller of HIVE and LEO.

Forexbrokr is the guy behind the @crypto-guides project, an initiative to generate organic traffic to LeoFinance and also one of the guys who motivated me to focus on one project rather than spreading myself too thin (thanks, Dane).

I mentioned these examples just to point out that most LEO whales are actually very involved with the community and help it grow day by day. These guys are not speculators who bought a lot of tokens and are just waiting for a good opportunity to dump and make bank. I mean, they can do that, it's their stake after all, but history tells us that's not likely to happen.

LEO is backed by a diamond-paw community that's in for the long run and won't shy away at the first bear market that comes by.

But what about the price?

You may have noticed that up until now, there is not a single mention of the price or value of the LEO token, and the reason for that is very simple: it doesn't matter.

Really, it doesn't. At least not for now.

It's true that LEO has seen better days price-wise, but even when it was priced at 1 dollar, it was still undervalued. Heck, even a 5 dollar LEO would be severely underpriced, in my opinion.

What I'm trying to say is that the current price of LEO is still not really a reflection of the underlying value of LeoFinance, and I'm a firm believer that all the development and all the core values that I listed above will eventually kick in and it won't matter if LEO was once priced at $0.2 or $1.

If anything, I believe that the current price is a huge opportunity rather than a liability.

Final thoughts

Hive is full of great opportunities, and I think LEO might be the greatest of them. The team that's constantly taking it to the next level, the projects that give it many use cases and a battle-tested, diamond-pawed community are among the key factors that made me pick LEO as the primary asset of my crypto portfolio for 2022.
