Crypto.com has been criticized since last year for pushing out changes to their rewards with little or no notice. Recently, in an effort to be more forthcoming, they have tried to announce changes in advance. The most recent change was raising card staking levels. Today, they are announcing another change that should please many users of the Crypto.com Visa card. They are changing their card tiers to a fixed fiat amount of staked CRO rather than a fixed number of CRO, which is now the case.

The move is supposed to help avoid chasing a moving target that results from price volatility of the CRO token. In a recent post, we shared how an upgrade would cost an extra $1000. For every penny that CRO rises, the cost of the card upgrade would increase by $500 at the Jade Green/Royal Indigo level. For card tiers above that, multiply the increase by 10X for the Icy White/Frosted Rose Gold and another 10X for the Obsidian.

With the changes, increases in CRO price only assist cardholders in meeting the staking requirement sooner. This will likely be a resoundingly welcome change. Another advantage is that the card tier is locked in for six months should the price of CRO drop. On the opposite end, price appreciation would result in the ability to take some CRO off the top and still meet the staking requirements.

To their credit, Crypto.com has given plenty of notice to cardholders. The new plan goes into effect March 19th.
