Perhaps it is a social construct. But, for those who work jobs they don't enjoy to earn it, money represents time and effort spent. If you lose money, all that time doing something unpleasant was for nothing. It is lost lifetime.

Add to that, we are psychologically tuned towards loss aversion. It's no wonder that we are emotional towards money.

Certainly we can see how people end up in this position. Some might say it is by design, to keep the masses enslaved.

Even without going to that degree, following the idea that it is the natural progression of scarcity, money is a representation of the fear tied to all this.

For this reason, perhaps cryptocurrency can help us develop a more advanced system that benefits more without being driven by fear of loss.
