Some players have already had early access to the Soulbound cards through the Splinterlands test server and have released the cards that will be released soon in the game (all subject to change until official release). In this post I'll cover the Soulbound summoners analyzing their effects and if the mana cost is really worth it.

These are the 6 summoners that will be released soon. In addition to having an exclusive primary ability, they all also have the Conscript ability (initially I thought they would have this ability). That is, using this summoner will allow you to choose a Gladius card for your ranked matches and tournaments. They all cost 6 mana, which is a very high amount for a summoner, is it even worth paying this cost to use a Gladius card? Let's check!

Analyzing each Splinter separately we can consider some points to reflect if the mana cost of these summoners makes them bad or if it is acceptable compared to their benefit.

Starting with Fire Splinter https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/9/92/Splinter-fire.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210212224131 we have Eternan Brune which in addition to enabling the use of a Gladius card also removes 2 armor from enemies. I'm sure everyone who has used a physical fire team has already realized that armor is really a big problem for this element, so this invoker would already be very useful independent of Conscript , especially if we consider its use in higher mana games as this difference would be negligible compared to its benefit.

Evaluating the possibilities of cards that are enabled by Conscript there are two main cards that would be amazing for your composition. They are Chimney Wallstop and Fina Voxom that have a high chance of eliminating enemies and activating the effect of Bloodlust . The other options are viable but it depends on the available mana of the game.

The summoner Pembrook Nymph has a much less impactful first ability, after all, increasing 1 life despite being useful does not even compare to the effects of the summoner Kelya Frendul. Let's then evaluate the Gladius cards that Pembrook enables to see if there are very strong options that compensate for their bad primary effect.

There are many good options to be chosen, especially in games with a lot of mana available, however it is necessary to evaluate if it is really valid to change 1 speed and 1 armor for 1 life and for Alva the Crusher for example. I honestly don't think so, so I would only use this summoner in matches that harm Kelya in some way (with rules like Unprotected https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/a/ac/Combat-rule_unprotected.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210209075058 or Reverse Speed https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/f/fb/Combat-rule_reverse-speed.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210209075101).

I'm sure I don't even need to talk about Lobb Lowland after all, everyone has always dreamed of being able to use Quora Towershead in ranked matches and with this summoner it will be possible! There are other options for Gladius cards in this element but none that compare to Quora.

For Life element https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/c/c6/Splinter-life.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210212224241 we have Franz Ruffmane which is the equivalent of Tyrus Paladium with 3 extra mana and the possibility of using a Gladius card. Looking at it this way it's obvious that Franz will always be worth picking if the game has a lot of mana available and these three extra costs don't make a difference. However, if mana is a problem, then we must evaluate the possibilities well to know if any of the available Gladius are really worth spending 3 extra mana.

Honestly, only the higher cost options or the legendary card are really useful, so this summoner only looks good if the game has mana available to choose Captain Katie or Marisol Contuma.

Octavia Shadowmeld is another summoner that I don't think is as good as the available cards aren't powerful enough to be worth the extra cost of this summoner. However, its life debuff can be comboed with the Trapp Falloway card and other cards with the Weaken ability alongside the Cursed Slimeball at level 6 to try to blow up all enemies with his Redemption .

It would be an extremely funny combo but it doesn't necessarily make this a good summoner, so I wouldn't recommend using it unless the available mana allows it and you want a card with high damage capable of activating Bloodlust on kills.

Lastly, the summoner Helios Matriarch provides a speed boost as her main ability. There is another summoner that does the same thing costing only 4 mana so the only difference that Matriarch provides is the possibility to choose Larissa Kerato in your team (this is the only Gladius card from Splinter Dragon https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/1/16/Splinter-dragon.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210212224013)

This combo can be very interesting to catch the opponent by surprise with a card with a very high capacity to deal damage and eliminate enemies, and can become increasingly dangerous when activating its Bloodlust . Your choice must be very careful as Larissa can easily be killed by Magic Reflect , so you must choose well in which match you will use this combo. A recommendation is to use them in games with the Equalizer https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/9/95/Combat-rule_equalizer.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210209075101 rule which removes the main negative point of Kerato and greatly increases your chance to stay alive and get multiple kills.

Despite being very difficult to classify them in a Tier List because there are several different evaluation criteria, I chose to divide them as follows:

The main factors I used to evaluate them were:

How powerful are the Gladius cards empowered by the summoner. How useful your primary buff is for your element. Whether the above two criteria are worth the extra mana cost.

Considering all this, the summoner that I liked the most was Eternan Brune for eliminating one of Splinter's greatest villains from Fire https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/9/92/Splinter-fire.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210212224131 (the armor) and Lobb Lowland which allows you to use the best card in the game in ranked matches.
