Amazon, Google, Apple banning Parler 🤔 (and how Hive can defend our freedom of speech)

Amazon, Google, Apple gehen jetzt auch gegen Parler vor. Das heißt, dass Amazon ihnen die Website-Server abdreht und die App von beiden großen App-Stores gebannt wird.

Das ist schon ziemlich heftig und ein schwerer Schlag gegen das soziale (zentralisierte, nicht blockchain-basierte) Medium Parler, das betont, besonders Wert auf Meinungsfreiheit zu legen.

Weiß nicht, ob das wirklich gerechtfertigt ist, dafür kenne ich Parler zu wenig. Habe keinen Account dort.

Man sieht jedenfalls, wie viel Macht einzelne Tech-Firmen haben, die sich ein Quasi-Monopol aufgebaut haben und praktisch im Alleingang entscheiden können, wer was posten und welche Apps man auf dem eigenen Smartphone installieren darf und was nicht.

Andererseits inkludiert Meinungsfreiheit nicht das Recht gefährliche Lügen zu verbreiten oder Menschen aufzuhetzen, das Parlament zu stürmen. Das ist auch klar.

Twitter hat aber auch die gesamte Historie, alle alten Tweets inkl. der Kommentare und Retweets entfernt, was nicht gut ist. Auch aus Dokumentationssicht.

Und dann bleibt noch der Anschein der Willkür, etwa dass der iranische Religionsführer eines verbrecherischen Gottesstaats (und Erzfeind der USA) weiter auf Twitter posten darf, der amtierende US-Präsident aber nicht 😂

Ich hoffe jedenfalls und sehe das auch als Chance für Hive, dass in Zukunft ein zensur-resistentes Blockchain-basiertes Medium wie Hive die Meinungsfreiheit mit transparenten und nachvollziehbaren Regeln und der zensur-resistenten Natur der Blockchain-Technologie verteidigen und schützen hilft.

Amazon, Google, Apple are now also taking action against Parler. This means that Amazon is shutting down their website servers for Parler and the app is being banned from both major app stores.

That's pretty severe and a hard blow to the social (centralized, non-blockchain based) medium Parler, which highlights its emphasis on freedom of speech.

Don't know if this is really justified, don't know Parler well enough, don't have an account there.

However, you can see how much power individual tech companies have, which have built up a de facto monopoly and can practically single-handedly decide who can post what and what not, and which apps you can install on your own smartphone.

On the other hand, freedom of speech does not include the right to spread dangerous lies or incite people to storm the parliament. That is also clear.

But Twitter has gone even further, removing the entire account history, all old tweets including comments and retweets, which is bad. Also from a documentation perspective.

And then there remains the impression of arbitrariness, such as that the Iranian religious leader of a criminal god-state (and arch-enemy of the U.S.) is allowed to post on Twitter, but the sitting U.S. president is not 😂

I hope and also see this as an opportunity for Hive that in the future, a censorship-resistant, blockchain-based medium like Hive can help defend our freedom of speech with clear and transparent rules and the power of blockchain technology.
