Following on from yesterday's blog - A KINGS ONLY SILVER CROWN, where i talk about the only silver crown coin made for the reign of King George VI, todays post will cover the only other crown made for his reign.

In 1951, to celebrate the end of austerity after World War II, the British Government held a ‘Festival of Britain’ on the South Bank in London. They also issued a special Crown for King George VI, only the second crown struck for this monarch in this country.

The crown was struck in Prooflike cupronickel. You have the bare head of the King on one side and St. George slaying the dragon on the other side.

Original 1951 crown remains incredibly sought-after as only the second crown ever struck during King George VI’s entire 16-year reign (the first was for his Coronation in 1937) – and the only crown of his reign to be issued in cupronickel.

Unfortunately for collectors, these coins carry little to know value. With 1,983,540 coins minted and the fact cupro-nickel has little to no value, these coins are readily available and cheap to purchase.

In my opinion, you get a lot of coin and a good bit of history for your money. Coi s like these are a great way to get in to coin collecting and always act as a talking point among numismatics.
