So I finally made an account on Top Shot and I have to say it is a very sleek presentation that is pretty easy to use for people who have on idea what a blockchain is. In fact the site isn't really geared towards crpytocurrency at all really and you can use your credit card to buy packs as ell as players on the market. All you need is an email and you can get started.

The Presentation

This site is top notch when it comes to design. It is easy to navigate with tabs that lead to the market, packs, community and your collection. You can go to your collection to look at the moments you own or search the market for ones that are for sale. When you click on a card you can see all the stats and play the highlight that is on the card. The market is also very impressive with a listing of the top sales for each card so yo u can gauge price and the range at what the card is being asked for on the market. There is even the option to suggest a price when you sell a card so you can see how much you think you should sell the card for.

The Moments

Each card is called a moment. It is called that because it has a clip of a play that happened in a game. It could be a Lebron dunk or a steal from a player that won that team the game. There are common, rare and legendary ones. Looking at the market the legendary ones are selling for crazy prices.

Credit Card And Crypto

You can buy cards on the market or you can buy packs that cost $9-12 each and come with 3-5 moments. There are packs that have legendary one in them but they are already sold out. They cost around $220 USD from what I saw which is a good amount of money. They update the stock of packs every Monday and/or Thursday with new series and when they are off the market you can no longer get those cards again. When you go to buy them you can either use your credit card or pay with crypto through coinbase. The coins they accept include ethereum, bitcoin cash, bitcoin and DAI. All you have to do is select this option and it gives you an address to send your funds. There is also the option to buy with dapper. Dapper is where your money goes when you sell a card and I don't think you can take it out yet.

It Is All About The Serial Number

I'm not well knowledgeable about sports collecting so I don't know how important the serial number is when people buy sports cards. But in this digital world of sport card collecting the serial number is everything. Cards that are in the top ten sell for WAY more than those that are in the 1000s. For example if there is 5000 couples of a common moment and you have the #2 of 5000 serial number it can sell for a lot of money. There is also a thing called jersey number where the serial number matches the jersey number of the player. These fetch for even more money. p

The Flow Blockchain

The site runs on the flow blockcain which I think is a side chain on the ethereum network. It was built for games and apps so sites like Top Shot could run seamlessly.

Are These The Future?

I really don't know. This is a brand new market and NFT collectables might be a fad that fades fast so please be careful with any money you choose to spend. Treat it as a fun game and not an investment and only buy with money you expect to lose. The good thing is this is NBA sponsored but it is way too early to see if NFT collectables will have the same staying power as sports memorabilia in real life. Time will tell.

What I can tell you is the site is very well designed and it shows what blockchain and crpyto can be in the very near future. There will be sites that people use where people do not even know what the blockchain is but still do well on the site.
