Welcome to one sentence explanations. This is an article where I (very roughly) sum something up with one sentence so you can get a good enough idea of something and why people are using it or talking about it in the crypto space. There are a lot of new terms and ideas being thrown around and people are still unaware of what a blockchain is. Thankfully, just like the internet, you don't need to be a tech genius to use it. If you want to program on it that is a different story, but it is easy to get why the internet is what it is and why you should be on it. It is the same with blockchain. You don't need to know block sizes or how to code on the blockchain to know why and how to use blockchain dapps. If you want to learn how to code that is awesome but for this article I just want to sum up in one sentence why you should use blockchain dapps.

So here it is, a one sentence you can use when your friend asks why do you blog on Leo or use blockchain dapps for your work.

BLOCKCHAIN LETS YOU HAVE OWNERSHIP OF ANY DIGITAL ITEM YOU EARN OR UPLOAD AND GIVES THEM SCARCITY.

That's it. That's all you need to know to be able to tell your friends why you use Leo or that new dapp that turns your digital art into an NFT. There is a lot more too it of course and other perks like smart contraacts but as an artist all you need to know is you can put your work online and make it scarce. Your photo that you captured at the right time can now be an NFT where only 10 copies are minted and only those 10 copies are the official copies of your work. You can now sell it or trade. Sure people can screen capture it but that doesn't make it official. Those minted nfts are yours.

Lets go over some examples of why this is a big deal.

Artists:

You can know share your work online and make it rare. No longer are you given up your hard work online for free hoping that people don't just make copies of it. Now you can put your name on it on the blockchain and know where each copy is. I'm sure this can be done for music too where you can sell digital cds that are limited.

Gamers:

Think of all the money you spend on digital items that get locked to an account that you cannot do anything with. You don't own anything in-game but now, in a blockchain game that item is yours to do whatever you want with it. This means you can sell it or trade it or if another game is made that wants to integrate it you can transfer it to that game. When you are done with your game you can sell it and use that money to buy in-game items in other titles. Every drop in every game could be a unique item with a set number to it and this gives the player a lot more control and value for their time. IN fact even the game itself can be an NFT where you only sell a certain number of them and mint more. This means you could lend out your game to friends online.

Blockchain tech is not as hard to understand as you think. It might be daunting at first but when you see how much control you have over your work (whatever type of medium that is) and you have control over your online items you will see why this is the future of the digital world. I recommend starting now on sites like Leo where you can blog and make cryptocurrency for your work.

The world of digital goods has just started and it is going to cover everything from finance to social media where everything will be on a blockchain and the user will have a lot more say and control over the items and assets that they spend their time utilising. It is still early but I feel that we are now on solid ground with chains that are getting more user-friendly everyday.
