Two years ago I left my parents' house temporarily, I had my plan laid out in my head, I wasn't going to come back. I had left for the compulsory national service program for graduates meant for a year. My plan was to kick-off life from there on my own. It looked very real and was such an exciting idea being that I wasn't my happiest living with my parents then. Basically, I saw it as an opportunity to run away.

My family still found a way to meddle in the whole process and I ended up staying with relatives I don't like for the whole year and even more. I ended up at practically the same situation I had been running from and in a bid to please my parents, I got stuck. Now I'm back to my parent's place, my dream independent life void and still bending to the wishes of my parents.

With most Nigerian parents, they have the upper hand, you bend to their rules and it's as if they do no wrongs. It's no joke when they say the best relationship you can have with your parents is the long-distance one. You're more respected when you don't live with them and they regard you as an adult then. Your mental health is at peace and no bad vibes.

I really would love to move out even though I'm unemployed now and even when I am eventually able to afford my own place, I know it would raise a storm when I mention it. I like them, but they make it hard to live with them sometimes and I don't like feeling unwanted or like a burden. I'm an adult even when they don't realize, I hate being talked to or scolded every time like a child.

I've craved independence for a long time, my time alone in the university were some of the best, calm days of my life. It's crazy living with anxiety in a place where you're meant to find peace.

I can't comfortably afford moving out right now but I constantly think about it and saving up. I'm currently blogging on hive and taking writing gigs on Fiverr for income. My goal is to save my fiverr earnings for the purpose of moving out.

Check out my fiverr gig, I write anything from lifestyle blog posts, health, fashion and basically any custom order. I have good ratings too so you know I'm good.
