2 new projects for the passion

So, I'm back to my career rant and progress report for the week as it's been very eventful. Image source Like other years, I began this year with a lot of energy and a positive mindset that this would be the year that I would finally hit my primary goal and it almost seemed like life took me seriously.

I found myself getting mentored and finding out things that I wish I knew weeks ago that would have probably put me way ahead of my current state but hey, better late than never, right?

So, getting mentored got me to know the things I need to focus on as I spoke to actual recruiters in the industry. I needed to know why exactly I wasn't getting noticed and what more I needed to do and I found out exactly what was missing.

I've made the effort to put myself out there and now all I feel I have to do is properly implement all I've learnt and see where it takes me because I have a really good feeling about the knowledge I've gathered so far.

My new projects

In my quest for referrals, I got talking to a lot of people and so far, I've been referred for 2 projects which are going to be free but still projects nonetheless.

The first one is a real estate rental platform that I'm not entirely abreast with information about yet. I've done the first part of my design thinking process by coming up with a problem statement and doing some research, however, the idea doesn't look viable the more I dig into it.

The fact that it's an unpaid project means I can poke holes into it with the other team members so we can properly develop a unique selling point for our project before we begin. This way nobody's time gets wasted and we all understand what we can and can't do in the process.

The second project isn't exactly there yet as well. It's a fintech project that I haven't been given enough information about yet because the owner of the project wants it to be as discreet as possible. It's also an unpaid project but I'm more interested in getting this one done than the other because it seems to have a better prospect.

I'm really interested in getting my portfolio updated with at least 5 major projects within the next few months so I'm fine doing these free projects. They'll also help me get better at designing as a whole.

I'll also be on the look out for design jobs and keep applying until I get one coz there's no way I'm going to get as good as I anticipate I will and not be worthy of a really dope job.
