Bad quality for a low price

I walked into a store a few days ago and saw these really cheap tiny boxes of pringles. They were so cheap and useless that the store was giving them at half price. So, I got them for about $0.1 each. It felt like a steal coz my nephews love pringles and on that particular day they were mad at me because I had prevented them from doing something, I can't remember what exactly. They were so mad they referred to me, their extremely loving aunt, as a "meanie".

Well, I got these cheap pringles to appease them and while it worked coz they're kids and their happiness is cheap, I couldn't help but notice how bad the quality of the pringles was. Each pringle was so thin that it almost melted in your mouth. I mean, I wasn't expecting the best quality based on the price but it was just horrible.

This isn't the first product I've noticed that offers very low quality for a cheaper version of their product but it makes me wonder why they'd offer to make a cheaper version if it's just of a very low quality. I mean, why not just reduce the size and just maintain the quality, and maybe not make it so cheap if the low price might just end up being a problem.

I don't understand the marketing strategy behind it but I guess it works coz, well, I bought it and it helped appease my nephews regardless of how terrible the quality was.
