Getting through another task

For the past 1 week, I've been busy with the crazy task of writing about incredible Canadian government grants that make me sick with longing.

I can't say I have a dream country in mind, however, I know when I think about raising a family, it's in a better society than the one I'm currently in.

Early this year, I applied to a Canadian university and got rejected. After that, I just placed all my immigration plans on hold until maybe I stumble on it one way or the other.

However, on weeks when I find myself writing about things like Government Pension Plans and Old people discounts in Canada, I can't help but imagine my life in a society that has these sorts of things available.

I mean, there's a laid down procedure on how the tax deducted all through the years a person works is invested and then there's a laid down procedure on when and how a person receives their pay given whatever circumstance they may find themselves.

All this information is available online. I mean, even their registrations are done online. There is no hassle. There is no stress. There are no queues.

Have you been to Nigeria??? Old people discounts, how? Pensions paid without stress, why? Disclosure of what's being done with your deducted pension tax, in what country?

I can't even begin to write about this without feeling sick. Pensioners are poor.

I lost my uncle a few years ago. Although he had been old and broke for as long as I had known him, I was made to understand that there was once a time he was a wealthy man working for the Port Authorities.

For as many years that I have a memory of my late uncle, he had always been fighting for his pay. He had always been owed money by the government. He always talked about it.

Whenever he would come for a visit, his reason would be that he's chasing an amount of money the government was meant to pay pensioners.

Up until his death at age 85, he had been chasing. He died poor.

What's even crazier? Right after his death, I heard his children continued chasing the same money on his behalf. It is absurd.

Both my parents are pensioners. However, their place of work is a bit lenient with them currently. My father is still under contract at his university. They are doing okay in their situation. But not many are this fortunate.

There are no Old People Benefits from the government. Even what's rightfully yours is taken away. It's extremely absurd.

Writing about other countries gives me anxiety. But I find peace in my knowledge that all I go through right now is temporary.
