This morning, I came across a video of a guy talking about people who take part in reality shows, come out with celebrity status and have nothing to offer other than their celebrity status. They have no skills and nothing to fall back on, just popularity and a certain standard of life they feel they need to keep up with. Image Source He talked about how these people, mostly the ladies, have nothing else to do but have sex for money because they generally have nothing more to offer than their bodies. They do this to keep up appearances because generally they are really broke people.

It got me thinking about one of such reality stars who came for a visit at my University a couple of years ago and she couldn't even keep up with a topic or conversation. She just sat there, smiled, said a few words and left. She couldn't offer anything other than her face and a few years later, she's back to being a nobody.

The few who have actual talent learn to use their newfound fame to create a platform for their skills. Some of these fleeting stars who had a knack for acting went ahead to star in several shows and have retained a certain amount of fame and in turn, money.

The talentless ones who had nothing to display in their few weeks of fame and who weren't open to offering their bodies for money became washed up and eventually non-existent.

The basis of all that was said in that conversation was the need for backup skills. The fame came unexpectedly for them so they weren't exactly prepared for what it would take to keep it so they end up doing everything they can last minute or just letting it all go.

In the end, it's always best to be ready for an opportunity long before it comes.
