A couple of days ago, I wrote about 2 possible projects I have to work on in the next couple of weeks. They're all unpaid projects but I agreed to do them nonetheless. Image source I recently got onboarded into the real estate rental project and had a long conversation about what the project entails, so I shared my ideas and issues with the project. They listened and tried to answer all my questions, however, I feel it might be a flop.

I asked them how they intend on making money from the platform and more importantly how they intend on differentiating themselves from other rental platforms available online.

The moment I was told about the project, I did my due diligence by looking through all available rental platforms in my country and talking to a couple of people I know in the rental business.

From my research, I was able to gather that a lot of rental or real estate companies prefer owning their own websites and posting their own properties over using public rental sites that require them to pay for sponsorships.

Secondly, I also got to find out that most of these apartments available are not updated regularly and there are hardly any listings in certain internal but well-sought areas making the market not entirely suitable for a lot of people due to limited information.

The product owners believe that the solution to these issues is focusing on only a selected number of areas and having physical agents going around and sourcing for data that would be fed into the website.

I agreed to run with their idea because I want to design a platform that would eventually get built but I don't see how well it'll fly or if at all it will get funded.

I've been waiting on my lead designer to work with me on getting started but the rate at which he has been procrastinating is proof of how his heart isn't also in the project.

I feel like at this moment in my career growth, I may not exactly make any or a lot of money but I'll just keep skilling up as much as possible and what better way to do this than to gain experience working on an agile system with devs, marketers and data analysts.
