Analytics and data has been in the heart of everything in the 21st century. Undoubtedly, the openness and decentralization of a system such as Hive blockchain and its DApps depends on the amount and quality of data made available to Hive users, and the Hive Dev team vowed to leave no stone unturned. Their commitment to this is shown in the overhaul done to the Hivestats App.
Following the interesting development and overhaul of the Hivestats app, here is my detailed review of this web app.

Features

Let's begin by highlighting some key features and addons on the Hivestats app.

> 1. Recent Post Section

This is an interesting addon feature which displays the most recent posts on Leofinance. The good thing is that this does not take up viewing estate and is not intrusive. It gives a bit of character to the page. Also, the carousel layout is impressive.

> 2. The Profile, Received Rewards & Stats Section

Without going two down the page, your are presented with the user profile, received rewards and the quick stats view. This is properly positioned as it sort of leads through as a user explores deeper into their stats or another user's stats on Hivestats.

> 3. Top Hive Blockchain Tokens and their Prices

This section presents the top priced Hive blockchain tokens and their current prices, percentage price movement and a link to quickly perform a trade.

> 4. Announcements Section

This is a better way I feel like to refer to this section. I think and suggest that this section be repurposed as a notification/announcement section with information such as this advert currently on display, as well as information such as change logs, and other announcements.

> 5. Recent Post Section

This section focuses on the wallet and the different wallet operations. You can send, receive, delegate, power up, power down, etc. from this area. Of course, you need to be logged in to benefit from this section.

> 6. Graphical Analytics

This section provides a quick snapshot of a user's account growth overtime. Using bar and line charts, along with clear legends, looking at this chart will provide a clue to the account's growth over a 7 or 30-days period and total earned amount over a 7 or 30-days period. So, you want to know about how you have been doing lately on Hive? Head straight to this section for a snapshot.

> 7. Pending Author Rewards

This section displays all unpaid activities on the Hive blockchain and their value. Displayed on this section is the length of time to the payout for the post, the post HP value, amount of Hive payable, the amount of payable Hive Backed Dollars, the total USD estimate and the cumulative post reward.

> 8. Pending Curation Rewards

This section displays the curation rewards, which is obtained whenever a user curates a post by casting his/her vote on a post. Presented her is the title and link to the curated post, the payout time remaining, the time vote was done in relation to when post was made, the weight of the vote, efficiency, value and HP value of the vote.

> 9. Operations

This section is a log of all activities performed from a user's account lately. This include monetary activities, posts, comments, etc.

> 10. Hive Engine Tokens

From this section and beyond, we delve deeper into the Hive blockchain and its DApps. This section focuses on other tokens of the Hive blockchain, and shows an individual's ownership as well as the current USD value. It is impressive to get to see all your crypto wealth in one place. It will be a quality of life improvement if this section can display life market movement of these tokens.

> 11. Hive Engine Rewards and Operations

I won't dwell much on this, just want to highlight a bug.

Bug Alert

Dragging the Hive Engine Operations scrollbar on Chrome or simply scrolling down the list weirdly turns the whole page blank.

Additional Thoughts!

Minor but Majors

The HiveStats version 5 update came in with really nice quality of life improvements and a nice UI. Here are some things that may be taken for granted that I will love to highlight:

  • The night/day mode toggle. It is a thoughtful addition.
  • The dropdown arrows that can be used to reveal and hide some sections. This is nice as too much data may be overwhelming for some users.
  • The nice list view that has been implemented in most sections.
  • The thoughtful mix of some grid and list designs on the DApp.

The Good

  • Thoughtful arrangement of stats from simple to complex.

  • Use of graphs with proper legends

  • Night mode

  • Nice UI/UX

  • Quality mobile optimization

  • and numerous others I've mentioned above.

Optional Improvements

  • Add option to convert HBD to Hive from within the wallet section (this feature is already available from within the Hive keychain extension)

  • Option to rearrange tabs/sections based on user preference and save state per logged in user

  • A proper trading option for Hive coins and tokens other than Coingecko would be appreciated, Cubdefi seems more appropriate.

  • Add a brief description of each section and what it does, it can help improve on user experience and QoL.

  • Fix some bugs.

Conclusion

HiveStats update v5 is no doubt a quality and timely update. It not only encourages more adoption of HiveStats, but presents users with quality and sufficient quantity of data, thus, promoting more decentralization. While there are few issues here and there, overall, the team behind this DApp has done a really great job and I say kudos to y'all.
