When asked about my favourite food, I must confess that I have a hard time choosing a specific meal. The reason for this is that I rely on others to prepare most of my meals, and I enjoy a variety of meals. However, there is one meal that I have been consistently having for breakfast, and it is simply a well-garnished tea and bread breakfast.

Here in Nigeria, a bread and tea breakfast would always be accompanied by proteins such as akara, which some may refer to as beans cake. When it is combined like this, you hear meal names such as "akara and bread" AKA "A & B".

Here is what Akara and bread looks like, trust me, it tastes really good. Photo credit: https://pin.it/7DaDwu6

The beauty of this meal is in its simplicity and ease of preparation. A slice of bread can be toasted, buttered and topped with jam, peanut butter, or any other spread of choice. But as I've highlighted earlier, Akara and bread is usually the best combo.

For my tea, I usually prefer it with a lot of milk, and sweetened with sugar, chocolates or honey. I also like add soya bean powder to the mix. Whatever way you want to prepare your tea, it takes less than 10 minutes to prepare and can be enjoyed on-the-go.

Another reason why I love this breakfast is its longevity. It keeps me full for a longer time before hunger pangs start to kick in. This is because bread is a good source of carbohydrates that take longer to digest, while the tea keeps me hydrated for the most part of the day. I also find that the tea makes me very thirsty, which helps me to drink more water throughout the day, keeping me well-hydrated.

Although I acknowledge that this meal may not be the most exciting or fancy, it is one that has served me well, and I always look forward to it every morning. With time, I may discover new cuisines that I enjoy more, or even develop a taste for a more proper dish. However, for now, I am content with my well-garnished tea and bread breakfast. It can even be said to be an adequate or even a balanced diet (ask me the difference between adequate and balanced diet another day).
