Literally. As the big news of the day for all those interested in the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency is that Litecoin has become the “Official Cryptocurrency of the Miami Dolphins“.

As a Brit, you do have to make an effort to watch a game of American Football on the TV. The sport is nowhere near as popular in the UK as the likes of Football, Tennis, Cricket, etc, but 'we' are aware there is another 'football' out there, and that the ball is the wrong shape.

My team as a child was the San Francisco 49's, but my brother was all for the Miami Dolphins and it is this team that today has potentially give Litecoin, and cryptocurrency in general, a huge stage to stand on.

Launching for the 2019 NFL season, the collaboration with the Miami Dolphins gives Litecoin the ability to tap into one of the NFL’s largest and most passionate fan bases through in-game branding and advertising opportunities at Hard Rock Stadium, as well as inclusion across the team’s various online properties and digital content.

It is clear to me that such a popular sport, particularly in the US, has the ability to bring many more eyes onto cryptocurrency. And it's not only Litecoin getting in on the act:

Through the partnership, the Miami Dolphins, Litecoin and Aliant Payments intend to give home game attendees the ability to pay with Litecoin and Bitcoin when purchasing tickets for the team’s 50/50 raffle, where half of the proceeds benefit the Miami Dolphins Foundation and its charitable causes.

“We’re thrilled to see Litecoin become the official cryptocurrency of the Miami Dolphins,” said Charlie Lee, creator of Litecoin and managing director of the Litecoin Foundation. “This collaboration propels Litecoin in front of an audience of millions of people around the world at a time where adoption of cryptocurrencies continues to gain momentum and the ecosystem is able to support real world use cases in ways previously not possible. We see this as a powerful way to raise awareness and educate people about Litecoin and cryptocurrencies on a tremendous scale.”

Absolutely huge news, although today it has done little to stop the market bleeding.

I can foresee other coins and industry leading technology and businesses adopting this approach as millions of people attend and sit in front of the television to absorb sport on a daily basis.

Finally, the prospect of a decent half-time (end of quarter / play, or whatever it is) advert.

Go Dolphins!
