The developers behind the virtual world of The Sandbox are looking at the MMORPG genre for social gameplay elements to tie their entire metaverse together. They replied to a tweet from Play to Earn confirming the existence of an overall gaming experience. However, they didn't really go into detail, while suggesting they will soon publish more on this topic.

"We are working on making the meta gameplay an essential part of the user experience of The Sandbox", game studio TSB Gaming replied to our tweet. They explained that the game 'will feature similarities' with massively multiplayer online role playing games to create 'deeply immersive social games'.

The social aspect of games in the MMORPG genre can be seen in group quests or social systems like guilds. In those online games players earn experience points for completing quests, while they also need to improve their gear. Perhaps The Sandbox will give experience points for visiting certain lands or playing certain mini-games. Theoretically they could even award players with NFTs or the in-game currency SAND.

What is The Sandbox?

The Sandbox is one of the blockchain-powered virtual worlds currently in development. This particular virtual world is supposed to launch its beta test this summer, but before that time there will be one more pre-sale. During this pre-sale gamers, businesses and investors can buy virtual land with a discount. You can now register, to make sure you're not missing out.

Its first land sale sold out within a few hours, while the second one took 48 hours. The last one took place in March and sold out within a day. It was the biggest land sale so far, offering ten percent of the world up for sale.

The virtual world of The Sandbox consists out of lands, and voxels fill up each of those lands. Visually it will remind many gamers of Minecraft, as both games have this Lego-inspired look to them. However, players are able to buy virtual land and implement any form of monetization. These virtual lands can become mini-games, adventures, virtual shops, extensions of actual webshops, a space for social gatherings, and so on.

Players own tokenized LAND-assets and store them in their Ethereum wallet, using for example Metamask. In addition players can create and sell all kinds of items on a public marketplace. Think about decorations for a piece of land or avatars.

The Sandbox getting mainstream attention

Most blockchain project remain part of the blockchain community. They might flourish, even though many never connect with a mainstream audience. The Sandbox might change that. The company behind the virtual world has announced partnerships with companies like Atari, Square Enix and web browser Opera. These are first endeavors into bringing blockchain gaming to the mainstream.

So far the developers sold twenty percent of the total land supply. It’s within the line of expectations that the next land sale will bring in even more companies. Imagine fast food restaurants allowing gamers to earn points, and use these points to pay for an actual online order. Or think about a fashion company that’s selling t-shirts.

In addition we expect more gaming companies to join The Sandbox, including for example Ubisoft, Gameloft, Focus Home Interactive or Microids. All these companies have their headquarters in France, which is the same country where TSB Gaming is located.
