Short and Sweet - Little Boys playing in the Big Boys Playground

Well what a 24 hours it’s been, well two weeks really
Over the last fortnight we saw a big boy buy a new playground and it looked pretty good at least non-threatening. It did create a stir as any new kid in town does, however the prep schoolboys club saw this and thought, hmm, I don’t know if I like this new boy in town, they are different, and difference is scary.
So they decided to make a unilateral decision to build a wall and keep the strangers out – forgetting that what the New boy had done was perfectly legitimate, he had not yet shown any behaviour that would or could be perceived as threatening. After all there was plenty of space for all and he had a right to be there.
Fear gets the better of us from time to time and in this case, it gripped the prep gang and drove them into a frenzy.
In building the Wall the little prep gang, who thought they were big, (because the people had spoken and said they could help drive future direction), managed to create controversy and alienate the majority of those that put them in their position in the first place. other prep schoolers, who thought by voting this little boy committee into power were voting for common ground and common decision making, forgetting that power breeds ego.
The little school prep team thought that the wall would show those big boys that they can’t just come in like that and make a home for themselves, heaven forbid they may want to change things and the Big Boy was a lot bigger than the prep boys so obviously because of their own egos thought that the new boy was like them and would behave as they do. This was a legitimate threat indeed, so they perceived.
After building the wall they expected that the Big Boy would cower and come scuttling to their terms and fall into line just like all the other prep schoolers, that he would apologise for being there and would offer them his lunch every now and then.
But the Big Boy came from a big city and had experience, he thought these prep schoolboys from the small country town were cute and he waited a while before responding. This gave the little boys some confidence and they all started to puff out their chests
Well the Big Boy responded overnight, he was upset by the wall and built a ladder to climb over it, then jumped into the prep school playground knocking over all the bullies. He then instilled some overlords of his own to keep the bullies at bay.
Meanwhile the prep schoolers flounder around not quite knowing what to make of all this, after all the Big Boy just squashed the bullies and hasn’t come for anyone else, now that’s a good thing right???
In the coup, the big boy did give a speech and said that his overlords will rule the roost for a few weeks until the dust from the broken wall settles and the rubble and rabble have also settled and been removed.
Once things have settled, he has said that the wall will be gone and that both playgrounds can co-exist together and he will even put some of his new swing set into the prep school. He has also said that he will give the Prep Schoolers an opportunity to vote for another group to represent them. I have no doubts that this will be watched very carefully
This all sounds rosy
But do we trust the egos???
I cannot say what the final outcome of all this is, in the meantime I will continue to do my thing, and get myself a couple of months’ supply of Popcorn of which I will share with any that want some 😊
Schoolyards can be fascinating places and as a lifetime observer of human behaviour and people watching, I will continue to do what I do best, and that is being me and not playing too many games that I know I am not cut out for.
