Investing in dCity part 1 - How to start

To get the bad news out of the way first, dCity cannot be started for free. On my main account @elbrava my dCity investment at the start was actually one of the biggest I have made so far. So on this account I will not be able to start playing dCity anytime soon.

Ok, enough with the commercials! Let’s talk about the game!

This game is all about numbers, but especially through the latest update it has become quite a lot of fun and when you invest in this game you get an actual return on investment. Which you can use to buy more cards, or sell for Swap.Hive etc. Even a one-time investment will over time generate enough to let your city grow or to refund your initial investment and in the long run it will do both.

The most important numbers at the start of the game are your population and production. All that you need to start earning is one production card and enough population to fill all the worker slots on that production card.

Let’s look at what the absolute cheapest way would be to start earning SIM tokens with the cheapest production card available. You could go for a public restroom, but that has negative popularity so I would not recommend that at the start. I would actually go for the forest instead.

This card has 4 income, needs only two workers and has also some positive popularity which allows you to use the cheapest worker population: Immigrants or Homeless. You would need either 1 Immigrants card or 2 Homeless cards to make the Forest produce 4 SIM daily.

On the market I now see a Forest card for sale for 3,9 Swap.Hive which is lower than the 4 Hive price for buying a random card. The cheapest Immigrants card at the moment is only 190 SIM on the market, but I have seen it for less than that as well. More like 150.

So what would be the ROI on that investment? At current prices 3,9 Swap.Hive is about 775 SIM. Together with the Immigrant card at 150, this is a bit more than 900 SIM.

In one year the Forest card will produce max. 1460 SIM, likely less due to the new president system with taxes on income and some other game mechanics. I’ll explain that in a later blog. But potentially you would not just earn back your investment within a year, but you might earn a 50% profit on that initial investment as well. There might be reasons why you will be earning a bit less, but this is the basics of the ROI of this game. I would say it is pretty good!

By the way, you must have a Hive account and use the Keychain browser extension, which unfortunately still doesn’t work for mobile use. On my iPhone and iPad I cannot use it. It might be different on Android. But I need to use a pc to acces my dCity account. I hope this changes in the future.
