Heading to China Town to get some silver,ไปไชน่าเทาวน์เพื่อซื้อเงินเพื่อการลงทุน
Yesterday, after reading several articles on the prospect of rising silver prices, I decided to head towards China Town in Bangkok.
This is the bag of tiny silver balls I bought at 7baht in weight. One baht is about 15.16 grams, so I got about 106grams of pure silver balls. Today the price of silver has gone up about 10%. This won’t make me rich but I would like to see my hard earn money not losing its purchasing value each day. I wish I had more cash to be able to buy more gold bars; the price of gold bar has gone up about 15% since last month.
China Town is full of gold shops dotted along the Yaowarad road. But we could not buy and silver coins or bars anywhere here. This is because gold is more popular among the Chinese as gold jewelries are a source of wealth and status symbols in Thailand. Silver is very cheap so if you want to show off your wealth or status, you should never wear silver jewelries! So, it has become an art form to locate a shop that has imported silver balls for selling to silversmiths.
That’s why I had to go to China Town and found my way through narrow dark alleys to get my bag of silver balls.
When I spotted this nice and gentle cat, I could feel that this isolated alley has nice friendly people behind these locked doors.
Most of these premises are storage rooms used by local Chinese merchants. During daytime, I could imagine that many workmen would be hauling heavy boxes and sags along this alley. I could see their lifting gears nearby.
เมื่อวานนี้เราตัดสินใจไปไชน่าเทาวน์ เพื่อหาซื้อเงินเม็ดเพื่อเก็บไว้แทนเอาเงินที่หามาได้ไปฝากธนาคาร เราอ่านบทความมาหลายแห่งและ ติดตามความเคลื่อนไหวราคาทองและเงินมาหลายสัปดาห์ แต่ตอนนี้ราคาทองขึ้นสูงเกินเอื้อม เราจึงลงทุนในเงินเม็ดแทน แต่กว่าจะหาร้านที่มีเม็ดเงินขายนั้น ไม่ใช่เรื่องง่ายเลย เราผ่านถนนเยาวราชก็เห็นแต่ร้านขายทองเต็มไปหมด ไม่มีร้านขายเครื่องเงินและเงินแท่งเลย เราจึงต้องดั้นด้นไปหาร้านที่อยู่ในซอยแคบๆ ที่ซ่อนอยู่หลังถนนใหญ่
This is a very long alley with very discreet people going about their business quietly.
ตอนแรกเดินเข้าไป ก็มีแต่ความเงียบและไม่มีไฟส่องสว่าง แต่เราก็ไม ่กลัว เพราะมีแมวหลายตัวอยู่ในซอย ก็แสดงว่าคนแถวนี้มีเมตตาดูแลแมวให้อาหารแมวกิน ประตูทุกบานมีกลอนลงอย่างแน่นหนา เพราะพ่อค้าจีนใช้ห้องเหล่านี้เป็นที่เก็บสินค้า เราแอบเห็นกล้องโทรทัศน์วงจรปิดหลายจุด ที่นี่ไม่ธรรมดาแน่นอน เราก็เจอร้านเก่าๆที่มีแต่คนจีนทั้งร้าน ทำให้นึกถึงสมัยเด็กๆ ที่มีแต่คนจีนตัวใหญ่ๆเต็มบ้าน เราซื้อเงินมา7บาท ราคายังถูกกว่าซื้อทองคำครึ่งสลึงอีก วันนี้ราคาเงินขึ้นไป10%แล้ว เราคิดว่าปีหน้าเราคงได้กำไรจากการถือเงิน มากกว่าเอาไปฝากธนาคารแน่ๆ.
From darkness into light! From gold bars to silver balls! That’s my effort to have some investment for the rainy days next year. This area of China Town is where those earlier groups of Chinese immigrants came to Siam to settle down and sell their labour in exchange for money some two hundred years ago. It amazes me that there are still the uneducated workers doing what our ancestors did many years ago. This brings up lots of fond memory about these muscular Chinese men cheerfully living their lives the best they could. They all had become successful and wealthy businessmen nowadays. All of the top Chinese tycoon families have their roots around this one square kilometers.
