One of the most searched diets for 2020 has been the keto diet.

Millions of people are prioritizing their health and looking to find out more information about what might work for them. This has prompted the keto diet to become the most researched diet for 2020, and has been one of the most popular with people around the U.S. for the last several years.

The growing popularity for the keto lifestyle has prompted thousands of articles and videos to be created warning about the risks of following a keto diet too though. There are still ongoing debates about whether or not it is a healthy approach to living or weightloss, but despite the lack of resolve on that issue there are still many thousands out there who are following the approach. You can find some who have been living a strict low carb lifestyle for decades now, including healthcare professionals who advocate for that lifestyle to their own patients too.

The No Sugar Trend

In the last 10 years we can see that around the market there are a growing number of companies that are dropping sugar. It has now become a beneficial marketing tool to display proudly on the packaging, "made with less sugar," "no added sugar" etc in order to set themselves apart from competition.

Still, in many of those highly processed goods on the shelves though that are still dominating the grocery store, despite that claim to have less sugar or no sugar added, you can find a variety of other potentially concerning ingredients.

Nowadays people want sugar substitutes and organic options for their children, they want plant based products that are made without soy, local and fresh ingredients when possible if they can get it for the right price too. They are also changing their minds on healthy fats and learning more about the dangers of highly processed foods and other common ingredients on the shelves, what risks they bring. But those habits are difficult to change.

Consuming too much highly processed food , researchers suggest, might be promoting overeating, leading to unwanted weight gain and promoting negative impacts on their overall health and well-being. But you still see that highly processed grocery items are popular around the U.S. and elsewhere, making up over half of all grocery purchases.

The U.S. healthcare market is facing a growing crisis of chronic disease, with millions who are suffering and it is expected to continue rising.

The low-fat low calorie market approach that has been heavily promoted and pushed for decades hasn't seemed to work, as 70 million adults in the U.S. are estimated to be obese, millions more overweight. And these weight issues could easily bring a wide range of potential health issues.

Despite the popularity and following for the keto lifestyle though, some doctors out there are urging against jumping in radically. They urge caution and say there isn't enough long-term data to support the safety of using that food approach, especially for treatment of anything. But there is some research that has shown the ketogenic lifestyle approach could provide more than one benefit.

As a result of that growing interest though, the keto market is growing. You couldn't find any keto specific products on the shelves 5 or 6 years ago, depending on where you were. But now there are dozens of them, growing everyday to try and meet this demand. It is expected that this market will pass $1 billion by 2024.
