Is Splinterlands a good investment? 9 Months Later...

*

Hello friends, more than 9 months (precisely 9 months and 14 days) have passed since I joined the beautiful game of Splinterlands.

Every month I do some calculations and write a report to evaluate Splinterlands not as a game but as an investment.

And here I am writing my ninth report on Splinterlands.

My reports can be useful for those who are thinking of registering on Splinterlands and want to have an idea about a possible investment path to follow. At the end of this post you will find links to my previous eight monthly reports.

**

Report Topics

* Here are the topics I will cover in this monthly report:

  • **Result Previous Report
  • Cards bought in July
  • Cards I'd like to buy
  • Valuation of Splinterlands as Investment
    • Total Costs
    • Total Revenues
      • Value of my card collection
      • Value of accumulated DEC tokens
  • Profit/Loss calculation.
  • ROI
  • Final Considerations
  • The links to previous Reports

Previous Report Result

The starting point for evaluating Splinterlands as an investment is the result of the previous monthly report. After eight months I achieved a total profit of 24,214 $ and a ROI of 10.93% compared to a total investment of 221,500 $.

During the months of May and June I invested heavily in the purchase of cards in order to enhance my card collection. In the month of July I invested only 8.40 $.

Cards Purchased in July

In the following table you can see the cards I bought in the period from 2nd July to 4th August.

*

**

So I spent a total of 8.40 $ (= 38,356 HIVE) .

In the following image you can see the cards I bought.

Two very useful cards:

  • Cerberus (Level 5) is a very useful card in battles with few mana available. It has two very good abilities and costs only 4 mana points (good to deploy when the battle rule is Little League).
  • Enchanted Pixie (Level 5) is a card I've long wanted to upgrade to level 5. It costs only 3 mana and has a very useful ability (Inspire**) when there are few mana available and when you decide to bet on cards that have a melee attack.

I only bought two cards because my collection of cards at the moment allows me to easily enter the Champions II league and is enough to enter, even if not easily, the Champions I league.

In fact in the previous season I entered the Champions I league for the first time :)

To buy the cards I used:

Cards I'd like to buy

My current goal is to be able to enter the Champions I League in every Splinterlands season.

The cards that I find interesting and that I would like to buy in the future are the following. At the top of my wish list is Gold Dragon (Level 3). A card that in the past season I received in delegation from @marianaemilia for winning one of his giveaways. Gold Dragon has been important and has contributed to the achievement of my goal: the Champions I League.

Valuation of Splinterlands as an investment

*

To evaluate an investment you have to compare costs and revenues.

**

Total Investment Cost

* The total cost of my investment in Splinterlands to date is the following amount:

**Registration cost (Starter Set) + Cost of Cards Purchased

*

At the end of June the total cost was 221.5 $.

.

If at **221.5 $ I add 8.40 $ I get the total cost I have incurred to date.

*

**

The total cost is 229.90 $ = 1049,772 HIVE

. *

After I have calculated the total cost I calculate the revenues.

The Revenues

On Splinterlands the revenues correspond to the value of the **Cards in my possession and the value of the DEC (Dark Energy Crystal) tokens I have accumulated.

How much are my cards worth?

To calculate the dollar value of my cards I use the site Peakmonsters (https://peakmonsters.com/@libertycrypto27/collection) which makes the calculation much easier and faster. To calculate the value of my card collection I consider the total value using the MarketPrices.

The total value is 285.67 $**

.

**

How much are the DEC tokens worth that I have accumulated and not spent?

For each battle won you receive a certain amount of DEC as a reward. Thanks to the battles won and the sale of Dwarven Wizard (Gold) I have a total of DEC of 44045 on my wallet. *

To calculate the dollar value I first need to check the DEC value on Hive Engine (Highest Bid).

Today August 4, 2020 the best bid for 1 DEC is *0.00240 HIVE.

The value of my DEC tokens is therefore 23.2 $.

.

**

Profit

( Revenues - Costs )

*

Now I have all the data I need to calculate any profit or loss. **

My profit is 78,920 $

ROI

( Return On Investment )

*

**

Final Considerations

In just over nine months, I made a profit of 78,920 $**.

The ROI obtained is 34.33 %.

Profit and ROI increased compared to the previous month.

The ROI trend from the sixth month onwards is as follows: **

  • ROI after 6 months: 34.73 %
  • ROI after 7 months: 77.02 %
  • ROI after 8 months: 10.93 %
  • ROI after 9 months: 34.33 %

The trend in PROFIT from the sixth month onwards is as follows:

  • PROFITTO after 6 months: 27,992 $
  • PROFITTO after 7 months: 82,346 $
  • PROFITTO after 8 months: 24,214 $
  • PROFITTO after 9 months: 78,902 $ *

Profit in the eighth month had dropped because some players had put a large number of cards on sale at very low prices and as a result there was a general decline in the value of many cards, especially the Beta collection. My collection consists mostly of cards from the Beta collection.

In the last month the prices of the cards have increased again and the value of my card collection has also increased with the consequent increase in ROI and Profit.

Posts and Contests

But Splinterlands is so much more!** Every week there are fun contests to participate in. Depending on the quality of the post, Splinterlands awards up to a maximum of two upvote per week to participants in weekly contests.

If I consider the upvotes I received in 9 months from the @steemmonsters account I'm in strong profit and the ROI is much more than 300% and only with the participation in the weekly contests!
