Coingecko was founded in 2014 as a crypto tracking website to provide a 360-degree overview of any cryptocurrency. It was one of the early data aggregators in the cryptocurrency market. The crypto data aggregator market does not have many dominant players. Obviously CoinMarketCap is the number one player but Coingecko has found wonderful community support in recent years. I like Coingecko as the site loads very fast and it gives me the option to analyze the price of crypto in different pairs (crypto or fiat). The site is very user friendly and it provides all historical snapshots, events calendar and personalized watch list. Coingecko has a mobile app (ios & Android) also and if you have not used it, give it a try. I find Coingecko’s data representation very dynamic and the design concept is obviously very different from the market leader CoinMarketCap’s minimalistic design.

Nowadays, all crypto data providers are focusing to provide personalized service. It may help them to generate future revenue. So, all are encouraging the users to open accounts whereas without opening an account, you can avail the service. Such sites are generally used to track historical price movement of any cryptocurrency but that is only a very basic service. A user may like to create his/her portfolio too and manage it by obtaining a proper view through such sites. With the emergence of DeFi, data need of the consumers is also changing. For example, you may like to do a quick yield farming calculation. You may need customized data charts and alerts also. There comes the importance of opening an account. Coingecko is promoting new account creations at present for the very reason.

Coingecko has launched a campaign called “collect candies”. After you sign up, you can log into Coingecko on the web or mobile app every day and collect candies. These candies are like points and you can redeem the points for goodies. Presently they are providing redemption rewards like NFTs, Coingecko branded T-Shirt, Coingecko DeFi book etc.

I just started collecting candies and thought about sharing with all for fun. The crypto data aggregation market is still at the nascent stage. Such promotions are good to onboard new users. If you are already a user of Coingecko, check-in. If you never used it, have a look at it. Meet the 'Gecko'. It does not bore anybody. :)
