Happy Monday, Hivers and Silver Gold Stackers!

Continuing on with this article series, let us look at (what I think is) the very first silver dragon coin produced by the Perth Mint.

I love this coin. Not only is it a millennium coin, but it also depicts a favorite mythical creature- the dragon.

The dragon is the only mythical creature in the Chinese zodiac, it is also one of the most popular in the entire Lunar coin series.

2000 Australia 1 oz Silver Year of the Dragon BU (Series I)

Sovereign coin backed by the Australian government. Contains 1 oz of .999 fine silver.

REVERSE: Designed by Tony Dean, the coin features a traditional Chinese dragon as a long, scaled and serpentine creature with four legs, a ‘pearl of wisdom’ and the Chinese character for ‘dragon’.

OBVERSE: The Ian Rank-Broadley likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, purity of .999 fine Silver and the monetary denomination are shown.

The 2000 Australia 1 oz Silver Year of the Dragon was the second release in the first 12 coin Lunar series. The next Lunar Dragon was produced 12 years after in 2012.
