I'm trying to get back to posting more than just the Nomination post on Sunday. I've got plenty of coins to write about and am finally getting some free time before winter.

On my way out tonight I reached in the box with all the newest coins I haven't wrote about. This is what I pulled out.

2014 Tokelau Tuna

I wasn't expecting this one. Figured it would be a trashed Eagle or Maple, but ended up with this Yellowfin! I went over and was surprised at some of the numbers for this. Let's see what JM Bullion has to say about this beauty.

Tokelau territory of New Zealand released its newest coin series, which is dedicated to the thriving aquatic wildlife of Tokelau. The first of this exclusive series is the 2014 Tokelau Silver Yellowfin Tuna Coin.

Hmm. First of the series you say. JM Bullion is saying this had a 500k mintage and Apmex is saying it was a 100k mintage. Either way, this one looks like it was swallowed by a Yellowfin then spit out on the beach and found by someone who treated it even worse.

Obverse

On the Obverse of the coin you can see the Lizard Queen with her teapot or some kind of purse where she keeps the souls of her enemies. Let's see if that's what JM says about it too.

In the center of the design is the portrait of Elizabeth II in honor of New Zealands former British rule. Beneath her appears a Tuluma or tackle box, which has become the national symbol of Tokelau due to its prosperous fishing industry. At the very bottom of coin is a banner with the words Tokelau mot e Atua printed upon it. This phrase translates into Tokelau for God. Also engraved on this coin is the name, “Elizabeth II” along with the coins vital information.

Guess I was wrong about the Obverse. Let's check out the Reverse.

Reverse

Here's the star of the show...The Kakahi-Yellowfin Tuna!!! This coin has such a dull luster I could barely catch the light with it. Wither this was a roll end or someone really didn't like this coin. Again a short description from JM Bullion.

This special edition coin invites viewers to take a plunge into South Pacific Ocean for an intimate glimpse of the Yellowfin Tuna in its native habitat. Featured on the front of the coin is the eponymous fish as it swims past a large branch of coral, perhaps in search of some food. From its open-mouthed expression to its distinctively shaped fins and gills, collectors will be captivated by the detailed rendering of this fascinating sea creature. Equally as impressive is the accurate depiction of its aquatic environment, like the formation of the coral reef. Such realistic details make the viewer feel as though they were scuba diving right alongside this tropical fish. Encircling the underwater tableau is the proper name of the fish, Kakahi-Yellowfin Tuna as well the name of the territory Tokelau.

That's all I've got today. I hope you enjoyed this hideous Tuna Coin! Hopefully I don't have any more of them in my collection. Maybe I'll raffle this one off or use it as a fishing weight.
