Among the infinite blockchains that exist today I want to talk to you about Algorand, not so much about its currency, ALGO, but about blockchain technology.

At the head of Algorand Inc. there is an Italian, Silvio Micali, teaches at MIT in Boston and has won the Touring prize.

Why do I want to talk about this among the many blockchains? At this moment I think the operation of this blockchain is interesting, the sensitivity towards consensus systems within a blockchain for Hive / Steem users I think is quite high ...

The first thing to say is that Micali and Algonrand claim to have "solved" Buterin's trilemma, in essence they have created a blockchain that is both completely decentralized, both secure and scalable (meaning that it can enlarge its size without problems ).

What differentiates Algorand from all other blockchains? Precisely the consensus system, Algorand defines itself as a blockchain that intrinsically can never fork over blocks.

Algonrand's definition of the consensus system that adopts the blockchain is: Pure Proof-Of-Stake. Basically, to make it very short, taking Hive as an example, it is as if in a random way ALL Hive users could become the first 20 witnesses.

In practice there are no witnesses or miners, each user participates in a sort of digital lottery and, if he wins, he will be part of a "committee" of a thousand users who validate a single transaction.

The truly innovative concept is that only the user who is part of the committee knows he is, from that moment he sends the validated message and informs everyone that he is part of the committee.

So it is impossible to know who will be part of this group for the next block, you can only know ex-post who was part of the previous committees.

This makes it very difficult to attack the blockchain and take control of it, as the group of users who validate a block is always different and the block is validated only with their consent.

According to Algorand, this approach is the only truly decentralized one as it is impossible to know a priori who will validate the next block and therefore makes it enormously expensive to try to take control of the blockchain.

We can imagine the system as a lottery where everyone, at each round, has a ticket that can be a winner and where everyone can verify that this is actually one of the winning tickets of that round.

Who "wins" will propagate his ticket and his digital signature, at this point everyone knows who the members of the "committee" are, but it is now useless, because at this point the message has already been propagated.

Algorand is really distributed, in fact each committee is spreading a single wave of messages; scalable as all users, not just witnesses, run their own mini lottery on their pc, independently of the other users; it is very safe because in the event of a malicious attack it is impossible to know in advance which users to attack and attack all users is substantially impossible. Only after discovering that they are part of the committee do users propagate their messages, but at this point it is useless to know the composition of the validation committee. At the beginning, whoever wanted to modify the blockchain would not know who to attack, afterwards it would be essentially useless.

If you want to deepen the topic and know more about Algonrand and the ALGo crypto I leave you all the links that I have found, and there are many ...
