In recent days several times the US President Trump and the Secretary of State Pompeo have publicly asserted that they have evidence that the SARS-CoV-2 virus was inadvertently released by the Wuhan laboratory and, therefore, the responsibility for the pandemic by COVID -19 is from China. Many other western heads of state or government, from Germany, France, Australia to England, although they have not come to accuse China of causing the epidemic, have asked for clarifications in recent weeks on what really happened.

The fact generally shared in the western world is the accusation against the Chinese government for the lack of transparency, the hesitancy to sound the alarm, the lack of transparency on the contagion data.

The scientific community contends to brand the genesis of the virus as highly improbable in the Wuhan laboratory.

But on what evidence or evidence is based the security with which the highest offices of the US government accuse China?

Finally some news has leaked and what we are aware of for now are not proof, but certainly they are rather heavy clues.

According to intelligence from the USA, Canada, England, Australia and New Zealand, the clues are as follows:

  • the Chinese government has hidden the epidemic in its initial phase, although the WHO protocols, to which China adheres, set the 48-hour limit to communicate even the only doubt of a new type of potentially epidemic virus
  • Dr. Shi Zhengli, director of the Wuhan Virology Laboratory, studied methodologies to modify coronaviruses coming from bats; among these the virus known closest to SARS-CoV-2 with which it shares more than 96% of the genetic heritage
  • The Australian Laboratory for Animal Health and the University of North Carolina who collaborated with the Whuan center documented serious safety negligence and therefore closed relations with the Whuan center.
  • Huang Yan Liang, who worked in the Wuhan center, was initially referred to as patient or patient by the Chinese authorities; later they disappeared: her medical record, the indication as patient 0 and, finally, the doctor herself
  • both the destruction of virus specimens and the deletion of data relating to some sequences of genomes have been ascertained
  • since the beginning of the epidemic, China has refused to have access to expert Wuhan laboratories, including those of the WHO, and still refuses to provide information to a group of international experts
  • it is not possible to distinguish a virus selected through the "animal passage" from a natural virus

Basically, in my opinion, between these points there is no incontrovertible evidence, certainly the clues are quite varied and important and the thesis of the virus developed, probably with the "animal passage" technique, inside the Wuhan laboratory and by accidentally released here is among the plausible ones.

Personally I also consider it the most plausible, as it is by far the simplest.

Could it be simply a frame set up by the USA to justify a trade war, sanctions or even a real conflict with China?

Even this hypothesis I would not feel able to exclude it a priori, the recent past teaches us that for the USA and for England it is not a problem to invent completely bogus evidence, it was made for the war against Iraq, it could also be the case of this pandemic.

The difference between these two cases is that Iraqi weapons of mass destruction never actually existed, this pandemic is real, the invention would be limited to evidence that it is largely due to Chinese negligence and not to chance.
