Carlo

Hello everybody,

these days there's nothing to talk about these days but the lawsuit that's involving Twitter and nothing less than the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

The reason for the discussion, whose tone is becoming increasingly heated, is the circumstance that has seen Twitter "report" two tweets of the President classifying them as unfounded and with the "suggestion" to verify the sources.

The content of Trump's two tweets concerned the possibility of electoral fraud if the vote had taken place by mail because of COVID-19. In fact, following the statements of Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, but also of other Democrats who were considering the possibility of a remote vote and precisely by mail, to circumscribe the danger of the coronavirus pandemic, the American tycoon had raised doubts about this hypothesis pointing out the possibility that this mode could be easily manipulated leading to the risk of electoral fraud.

He was dosed with the fact that this attempt had already been made in 2016 but then failed miserably.

As a result of these two tweets, the Social Media managers not only catalogued them as "facts to verify" but also attached links to the CNN and the Washington Post to corroborate their assessment of possible Fake News by the President based on the fact-checking of the two newspapers.

Trump accused Twitter, but also all social media in general, of suppressing freedom of speech in order to interfere in the political life of the country with the aim of manipulating nothing less than the presidential elections. The President also stressed that his role also included defending freedom of speech and that he would therefore take serious action against Twitter and other social media.

When you get into an election climate, the mood gets hot, that's nothing new... but this time the "war" between conservatives and republicans gets more and more heated and the controversy between Trump and Twitter ultimately boils down to this. The President accuses Republicans of "managing" Twitter and other social media and although there is no way to follow up on these accusations, all this fuss raises a big question:

*the information that passes through private companies, like Twitter (but you could also mention Facebook and other social media giants), is it really free or can it be manipulated as Trump's accusation?

The question is of fundamental importance because if the accusations were well-founded, Social Media could really drive the thinking of its users by implementing sophisticated measures that could operate in the shadows without their knowledge.

It affects the lives of all of us, given the numbers that Social Media can generate both in terms of users and traffic.

Regardless of Trump's accusations and the consequences that he threatens against Twitter & C., the reflection to which this circumstance pushes us is not one to do lightly but deserves an in-depth analysis that could open up really new and interesting scenarios.

It's here that my provocation in the title is based... in fact I doubt that Trump uses Hive as a means of communication, but undoubtedly highlights how it is essential to have a means of expression that is resistant to censorship and decentralized.

A social network based on blockchain that in fact is not owned by anyone, whose contents are "branded" on the same and therefore not modifiable, that can not be manipulated by a political current and that has no interest in interfering with the ideas of its users, but above all it has its own basic economy that is not buyable and corruptible: this would be the answer to this situation.

Because as long as at the helm of a Social Media there will be a natural person or a board of directors, you can never suppress the suspicion that the same is managed by a political current rather than another ... circumstance that will inevitably lead to situations like the one that has seen protagonists Trump and Twitter.

So I renew my provocation: *President Trump gives up Twitter and uses Hive for your communications!!!! Here for sure no one will try to manipulate your statements and no one will interfere with U.S. policy!!

Joking aside, I hope that this post has provoked a little bit of reflection in you... because in my opinion a road that leads to decentralized social networks as a solution to real life problems may begin to emerge.

*What do you think?
