Un saluto a tutti,
spesso quando si compie un'impresa non si riesce a percepire l'entità della stessa fino a quando non si cominciano a fare paragoni con le alternative esistenti.
Nello specifico oggi vorrei parlarvi di una notizia che è rimbalzata su tutti i siti specializzati in blockchain e che riguarda una piattaforma che tutti conosciamo in quanto messa in piedi da una nostra vecchia conoscenza.. sto parlando di *EOS di Dan Larimer.
Questa notizia può darci l'entità del lavoro e delle potenzialità che Hive sta esprimendo nonostante un investimento e un clamore infinitesimale rispetto a quello profuso in EOS.
Ma come sempre andiamo con ordine e cominciamo dalla notizia che mi ha indotto a un profondo ragionamento.
A quanto pare *EOS sarebbe in grossa difficoltà a causa di un esodo di massa degli sviluppatori e di un calo drastico dell'attività delle DApps che girano sulla sua blockchain.
Per darvi l'entità di questa crisi citerò i dati della ricerca condotta da *Outlier Ventures (che per chi non lo sapesse è una piattaforma di venture capital molto attiva nel supporto, nello sviluppo e crescita di tecnologie innovative).
Secondo il loro rapporto c'è stata una diminuzione su base annuale di una percentuale che va oltre l'85% degli sviluppatori che lavorano sulla piattaforma EOS, con conseguente crollo del 94% degli aggiornamenti del codice tracciabili su Github, questo sempre rispetto all'anno scorso. In questo panorama non molto confortante, c'è anche il dato preoccupante della diminuzione dell'attività delle DApps EOS del 70% rispetto all'anno scorso.
Uno sguardo rapido alla classifica delle blockchain nel coinmarketcap ci conferma quanto appena detto: EOS sta lentamente ma progressivamente scivolando fuori dalla top ten dopo aver ricoperto saldamente posizioni all'interno della top five.
La notizia è abbastanza importante se condideriamo che EOS nel 2018 si è resa protagonista della ICO più imponente della storia delle blockchain con una cifra raccolta presumibilmente vicina ai 4 miliardi di Dollari.
La crisi dunque non risparmia nessuno? A quanto pare direi proprio di no!

Perchè mi è sembrato interessante riportarvi questa notizia?
La motivazione è quella che vi ho parzialmente svelato nell'introduzione di questo articolo e cioè un paragone tra Blockchain.
EOS ha destato grosso interesse al suo lancio, l'entità della sua ICO è stata "mostruosa" e tutto faceva presagire che avrebbe addirittura spodestato Ethereum dal gradino più alto del podio in termini di numero di DApps e Smart Contracts.
Ma così non è stato, a dimostrazione che neanche una grande mente come Dan Larimer e un grosso clamore derivante dal lancio della sua nuova blockchain sia stato sufficiente a garantire il successo di una piattaforma decentralizzata.
*EOS doveva essere “l'Ethereum-killer”, le sue applicazioni decentralizzate dovevano essere delle killer DApps.. ma alla fine tutto il clamore non è bastato e forse EOS sarà il killer di se stesso.
Attenzione, non sto dicendo che EOS sia finita, ma solo che sta attraversando una grossa difficoltà a soli due anni dal lancio. Creare qualcosa per contrapporsi a qualcosa di già esistente è molto pericoloso se poi l'obiettivo viene mancato e si rimane vittime di se stessi.
Ed EOS in questo parebbe essere recidiva..
Recidiva perchè *ha fatto lo stesso errore nel lancio di VOICE, piattaforma di social media decentralizzato che doveva essere lo Steem/HIVE Killer.
Doveva....
Perchè poi nella pratica *il lancio di Voice è stato più problematico del previsto, riservato in questa fase inziale solo ad utenti americani (ripeto, almeno per il momento) e molto contestato da più utenti di EOS per l'obbligo di aderire al KYC (Know Your Customer) che nessuno avrebbe mai voluto, ma che secondo Block.one (creatrice della piattaforma) era necessario per rendere VOICE conforme alle normative "federali, statali e fiscali" degli USA.
Ma diciamocelo sinceramente, *quale persona sana di mente aderirebbe al KYC solo per usare una piattaforma di social media?
A questo si sono aggiunte anche le politiche molto restrittive sui contenuti degli articoli pubblicati su VOICE che dovevano superare anche una fase di moderazione, rendendo di fatto la piattaforma l'esatto opposto di un social media decentralizzato.
Il risultato ottenuto da VOICE è secondo me abbastanza fallimentare, con un traffico utenti e un numero di articoli pubblicato che è abbastanza lontano da quello prospettato, ma soprattutto che non è assolutamente in grado di impensierire ne HIVE e ne Steem (nonostante quello che ne sia rimasto oggi).
Nonostante tutto EOS mantiene il secondo posto nella classifica degli utenti attivi giornalieri, ovviamente dietro Ethereum, ma queste notizie avvallate dal rapporto di Outlier Ventures pongono importanti interrogativi sul futuro di questa blockchain. Infatti senza sviluppatori che creano nuove DApps, come sarà possibile interrompere l'esodo degli utenti attivi e mantenere il loro numero stabile o farlo crescere, se di contro le altre blockchain continuano ad essere più attive e ad offrire alternative più innovative?
Questa è la chiara dimostrazione che il settore delle blockchain è tutt'altro che prevedibile e che non basta un grosso nome o una raccolta fondi (ICO) senza precedenti per garantire il successo di una piattaforma. *Quello che non bisogna mai sottovalutare e dare per scontato è la risorsa principale di queste blockchain, cioè le persone.
Gli sviluppatori e gli utenti sono il cardine su cui costruire una blockchain per evitare che quest'ultima resti una promessa solo sulla carta ma totalmente fallimentare nella pratica giornaliera.
E' un aspetto che *anche Justin Sun ha totalmente sottovalutato acquisendo Steemit Inc e imponendo il suo volere alla comunità esistente di Steem, dimenticando che la community era la risorsa principale di quella blockchain. Il risultato è stato un Hard Fork con cui la community ha ritrovato il proprio spazio e la propria libertà in una blockchain messa in piedi in una sola settimana e che ha subito riscosso interesse dall'intero settore del cripto-spazio, surclassando la blockchain da cui era derivata.
Sono lezioni importanti da tenere sempre a mente prima di fare qualsiasi passo in questo settore, pena la corsa a grandi passi verso il fallimento.
Questo è uno dei motivi che mi rende entusiasta di Hive, l'essere parte di una comunità che non è comandata da una persona ma che anzi è in grado di decidere democraticamente quello che è il percorso che deve seguire per perseguire l'obiettivo di fare quello che è bene per se stessa, per prosperare e progredire.
Nell'intro di questo articolo cominciavo con questa frase:
spesso quando si compie un'impresa non si riesce a percepire l'entità della stessa fino a quando non si cominciano a fare paragoni con le alternative esistenti.
Ora spero sia chiaro che mi riferivo ad Hive, in grado di compiere un'autentica impresa nel giro di 100 giorni di vita!

often, when you do a business, you cannot perceive the scale of the business until you begin to make comparisons with existing alternatives.
Specifically, today I would like to tell you about a piece of news that has bounced off all the sites specializing in blockchain and that concerns a platform that we all know because it was set up by an old acquaintance of ours... I'm talking about *EOS by Dan Larimer.
This news can give us the extent of the work and the potential that Hive is expressing despite an investment and an infinitesimal clamor compared to that made in EOS.
But as always we go in order and start with the news that has led me to a profound reasoning.
Apparently *EOS would be in big trouble due to a mass exodus of developers and a drastic drop in the activity of DApps running on its blockchain.
To give you the extent of this crisis I will quote data from research conducted by *Outlier Ventures (which, for those who do not know, is a venture capital platform very active in supporting, developing and growing innovative technologies).
According to their report there has been a decrease on an annual basis of more than 85% of developers working on the EOS platform, resulting in a 94% drop in the number of code updates traceable on Github, again compared to last year. In this not very comforting landscape, there is also the worrying fact that EOS DApps activity has decreased by 70% compared to last year.
A quick glance at the blockchain ranking in the coinmarketcap confirms what has just been said: EOS is slowly but progressively sliding out of the top ten after firmly holding positions in the top five.
The news is quite important if we assume that in 2018 EOS has made itself the protagonist of the most impressive ICO in the history of the blockchain with a figure collected presumably close to 4 billion dollars.
So the crisis spares no one? Apparently not!

Why did I think it was interesting to bring this news to you?
The motivation is what I have partially revealed to you in the introduction to this article, namely a comparison between Blockchain.
EOS aroused a lot of interest in its launch, the size of its ICO was "monstrous" and everything suggested that it would even oust Ethereum from the top step of the podium in terms of the number of DApps and Smart Contracts.
But this was not the case, proving that even a great mind like Dan Larimer and a big clamor resulting from the launch of his new blockchain was not enough to guarantee the success of a decentralized platform.
*EOS was supposed to be "the Ethereum-killer", his decentralized applications were supposed to be killer DApps.. but in the end all the fuss wasn't enough and maybe EOS will be the killer of itself.
Careful, I'm not saying that EOS is over, I'm just saying that it's going through a lot of trouble just two years after its launch. Creating something to stand up to something that already exists is very dangerous if you miss the target and become a victim of yourself.
And EOS in this would appear to be a recurrence...
Recurrence because *he made the same mistake in launching VOICE, decentralized social media platform that was supposed to be the Steem/HIVE Killer.
Was supposed to...
Because then in practice *the launch of Voice was more problematic than expected, reserved at this early stage only to American users (I repeat, at least for the moment) and much contested by more EOS users for the obligation to join the KYC (Know Your Customer) that no one would have ever wanted, but that according to Block.one (creator of the platform) was necessary to make VOICE compliant with "federal, state and fiscal" US regulations.
But let's face it, what sane person would join KYC just to use a social media platform?
Added to this were the very restrictive policies on the content of the articles published on VOICE, which also had to overcome a phase of moderation, making the platform the exact opposite of a decentralized social media.
The result obtained by VOICE is, in my opinion, quite unsuccessful, with a user traffic and a number of articles published that is quite far from the expected one, but above all it is absolutely unable to worry about HIVE and Steem (despite what is left today).
**Everything EOS maintains second place in the daily active users ranking,**of course behind Ethereum, but these news endorsed by the Outlier Ventures report raise important questions about the future of this blockchain. In fact, without developers creating new DApps, how will it be possible to stop the exodus of active users and keep their number stable or grow, if on the other hand the other blockchains continue to be more active and offer more innovative alternatives?
This is clear evidence that the blockchain industry is far from predictable and that an unprecedented big name or fundraising (ICO) is not enough to ensure the success of a platform. *What should never be underestimated and taken for granted is the main resource of these blockchains, namely people.
Developers and users are the cornerstone on which to build a blockchain to avoid that the latter remains a promise only on paper but totally unsuccessful in daily practice.
It's an aspect that *also Justin Sun has totally underestimated by acquiring Steemit Inc and imposing his will on the existing Steem community, forgetting that the community was the main resource of that blockchain. The result was a Hard Fork with which the community regained its space and freedom in a blockchain set up in a single week and which immediately attracted interest from the entire crypto-space sector, outclassing the blockchain from which it was derived.
They're important lessons to keep in mind before taking any step in this area, or else you'll be in a race to failure.
This is one of the reasons that makes me excited about Hive, being part of a community that is not commanded by one person, but rather is able to democratically decide what path it must follow in order to pursue the goal of doing what is good for itself, to prosper and progress.
In the introduction to this article I started with this sentence:

Now I hope it is clear that I was referring to Hive, which is able to accomplish a real feat within 100 days of life!
