Hi fellow Hiveians,

Here today to introduce a community that I created here on Hive! Introducing the "Data Visualization" community!

Here’s the link in case you’re looking for it!

Data Visualization?

What is Data Visualization you say? Well if you’re not familiar with the phrase, it’s a way to take bland, boring things like numbers and turn them into charts, graphs and plots. The people who do this often use software such as Tableau, Qlik and Microsoft Excel. They are able to do some nice, attention grabbing things in many industries so it’s very important to have some basic knowledge in this avenue, in my opinion. It’s good to be diverse in our interests, especially in the technology sphere.

I don't think it would or should necessarily compete with something like the Excel for All community but rather complement it. If someone wants to cross post something in there, you are more than welcome to if it's posted in another community! I may eventually adjust those rules but I would rather get exposure as long as possible and build the community that are interested in it than restrict it. The content has to be relevant to the concept of Data Visualization of course, but anyone’s free to post their content, be it original or cross posted.

My Contributions

So one of the things that I will be doing to provide some cool services to the Hive blockchain but also to hone my skills in the applications like Tableau and Excel when it comes to displaying data is try to take some awesome content like Asher’s engagement league and transform that from a SQL query to something that is visually cool and attractive to people to look at! That’s the beauty of Tableau, it makes things look eye-grabbing.

I’ll also try to take Penguin Pablo’s data and some others to transform it into some cool ways. I like the things he produces for numbers but I think it could be a bit more eye popping.

I’ll also play around with some visualizations of crypto market data, that was a fun one I was messing with for a bit but didn’t go anywhere with it.

Sources of data that I think will be very important: PeakD analytics Hivestats SQL queries by users for both on chain as well as things like Twitter

Requests

I will also, once I get a good habit going, take requests for people who want their data off services like PeakD and Hivestats, and transform it into some cool visualizations! I don’t know if anyone’s a data nerd like me but I like what a guy I follow on here, pixorama does (didn’t want to tag him, since I don’t know him well enough to do that) for practice, he exits peoples pictures with his own style and adds elements he thinks would be nice to see.
