I have the opportunity to tell about my favourite band - Onuka, because Zenit songs today is one year old (EN/UA)

Я вже не планувала публікувати сьогодні щось нове, але фейсбук нагадав, що одній із моїх найулюбленіших та найдрайвовіших пісень виповнився рік із дня презентації. Цей трек дійсно в певній мірі став саундтреком мого життя та завжди може налаштувати на позитив, зробити прогулянку цікавішою і допомогти виконати будь-яку рутинну роботу за максимально короткий термін.

I didn't plan to publish anything new today, but Facebook reminded me that one of my favourite and most exciting songs are one year old. This track has really become a soundtrack of my life to some extent and can always be positive, make the walk more interesting and help to do any routine work in the shortest possible time.

Пісня називається ZENIT від українського електро-фолк гурту ONUKA. Але так, як я не шукаю легких шляхів, то не буду банально скидати лінк на пісню чи кліп, а розповім декілька цікавих фактів. Традиційно закликаю діставати смаколики, поїхали!

The song is called ZENIT from the Ukrainian electro-folk band ONUKA. But since I'm not looking for easy ways, I won't banally drop a link to a song or a clip, but I'll tell you some interesting facts. Traditionally, I urge you to get goodies, let's go!

Хто така ONUKA? / Who is ONUKA?

Гурт Onuka з'явився в нашому музичному просторі ще у 2014 році. Основною особливістю їх звучання є гармонійне поєднання народних (здебільшого українських) інструментів та електро музики. Для України вони стали відкриттям і через деякий час отримали всенародну славу. Хоча про що я? Гурт вдало подорожує цілим світом, неодноразово їх можна було почути в Європі, Сполучених Штатах та, навіть, у Китаї. От де-де, а в Азії наші музиканти виступають дуже рідко.

The band Onuka appeared in our music space in 2014. The main feature of their sound is a harmonious combination of folk (mostly Ukrainian) instruments and electro music. For Ukraine, they became a discovery and after a while gained national fame. Although what am I talking about? The band has successfully travelled around the world, they have repeatedly been heard in Europe, the United States and even in China. Here and there, and in Asia, our musicians perform very rarely.

Лідеркою гурту, а за сумісництвом ще й головною авторкою текстів, ідей та солісткою є Ната Жижченко. На сцені окрім вокалу вона грає на сопілці, омнікорді та різних невеликих перкусійних інструментах, а також відповідає за відтворення семплів.

Nata Zhyzhchenko is the leader of the band, and also the main author of lyrics, ideas and soloist. On stage, in addition to vocals, she plays the flute, omnicord and various small percussion instruments, and is also responsible for playing samples.

Композитором, аранжувальником та саунд-продюсером гурту являється Євген Філатов, котрий світу більш відомий, як The Maneken. Але про нього я розповім якось потім.

The band's composer, arranger and sound producer is Yevhen Filatov, better known to the world as The Maneken. But I'll talk about it later.

В розширеному складі до гурту входить також тріо духових – два тромбони та валторна. При цьому в деяких піснях один із тромбоністів грає на трембіті. Я тепер починаю усвідомлювати, що потрібно створити окремий допис із усіма народними інструментами, котрі гурт використовує, щоб в кожного було усвідомлення масштабу їх роботи, тому що це далеко не повний комплект 😊

The extended band also includes a trio of wind instruments - two trombones and a horn. In some songs, one of the trombonists plays the trembita. I'm starting to realize that you need to create a separate post with all the folk instruments that the band uses so that everyone has an awareness of the scale of their work because it's not a complete set 😊

В найбільш розширеному складі гурт виступає разом із оркестром NAONI. І моя мрія потрапити на їх спільний концерт. Мені здається, навіть, якщо ви не слухаєте Onuka, то це відео все одно бачили, тому що свого часу воно просто підірвало інтернет, а також призвело до того, що в європейських чартах знов у топі опинився альбом українців.

In the most expanded line-up, the band performs together with the NAONI orchestra. And my dream is to get to their joint concert. It seems to me that even if you don't listen to Onuka, you still saw this video, because at one time it just blew up the Internet, and also led to the fact that the album of Ukrainians was again in the top of the European charts.

На сьогоднішній день гурт знаходиться на карантині і відбулись невеликі зміни у складі колективу – Марія Сорокіна вирішила піти з гурту та приділити увагу іншим проектам. Хто тепер буде відповідати за ударні незрозуміло.

Today the band is in quarantine and there have been small changes in the team - Maria Sorokina decided to leave the band and pay attention to other projects. Who will now be responsible for the drums is unclear.

Чому така назва у гурту? / Why such a name in the band?

Таку назву Ната вибрала не просто так. Це своєрідна данина поваги до дідуся Жижченко – Олександра Шльончика. Він був видатним майстром музичних інструментів, а за словами Нати: "Він зробив мою першу сопілку, навчив грати, сформував у мене розуміння Батьківщини".

Nata chose this name not just like that. This is a kind of tribute to Zhyzhchenko's grandfather, Oleksandr Shlonchyk. He was an outstanding master of musical instruments, and according to Nata: "He made my first flute, taught me to play, formed in me an understanding of the Motherland."

Onuka та Чорнобиль / Onuka and Chernobyl

До речі, під час перегляду інформації чи існують інші гурти чи торгові марки з подібною назвою Ната знайшла залізничну станцію в Японії (друга після України за кількістю прослуховувань дебютного альбому), котра знаходиться поруч із електростанцією.

By the way, while reviewing information on whether there are other bands or brands with a similar name, Nata found a railway station in Japan (second only to Ukraine in the number of listens to the debut album), which is located next to the power plant.

Сама тема електростанцій та Чорнобильської трагедії для Нати є особистою. Це дуже чітко можна побачити в багатьох роботах гурту та, наприклад, у цьому кліпі:

The topic of power plants and the Chernobyl tragedy is very personal for Nata. This can be clearly seen in many of the band's works and, for example, in this clip:

Її батько був ліквідатором на ЧАЕС, котрий ніколи не приховував від доньки правду, тому років з 10, коли до Нати прийшло більш зріле усвідомлення про цю подію вона почала активно цікавитись темою техногенних катастроф, історією Чорнобиля та наслідками аварії.

Her father was a liquidator at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, who never hid the truth from his daughter, so at the age of 10, when Nata came to a more mature awareness of this event, she became actively interested in man-made disasters, the history of Chernobyl and the aftermath.

Дитяча цікавість переросла у те, що з 19 років Жижченко неодноразово їздила до Чорнобилю, була там на побаченні із своїм майбутнім чоловіком, під час навчання в Університеті культури навіть диплом на тему Чорнобиля написала та проходила на ЧАЕС стажування, а потім і весілля хотіла там зіграти. Проте із весіллям у зоні відчуження не вдалось, а от медовий місяць… Власне, ось, що відбувалось після весілля:

Children's curiosity grew into the fact that from the age of 19 Zhyzhchenko repeatedly went to Chernobyl, was there on a date with her future husband, while studying at the University of Culture, even wrote a diploma on Chernobyl and underwent an internship at Chernobyl, and then wanted to play wedding there... Onuka та екологія / Onuka and ecology

Ната виступає проти використання хутра і підтримує кампанію ХутроOFF , а ще активно підтримує Всеукраїнський марш за права тварин.
Окрім теми Чорнобиля Ната також піднімає тему екологічних та соціальних проблеми. Наприклад, цей кліп знятий на сміттєзвалищі під Києвом.

Nata opposes the use of fur and supports the FurOFF campaign, and also actively supports the All-Ukrainian March for Animal Rights.

In addition to the topic of Chernobyl, NATO also raises the issue of environmental and social issues. For example, this video was shot at a landfill near Kyiv.

На відео показали постапокаліптичну столицю, котра просто тоне у пластиковому смітті. Вже під час зйомки кліпу відбулись перші зміни у всіх членів команди на тему споживацької культури.

The video showed the post-apocalyptic capital, which is simply drowning in plastic garbage. Already during the shooting of the video, the first changes took place in all members of the team on the topic of consumer culture.

Під час турів та концертів гурт продовжує спроби донести до людей проблему забруднення навколишнього середовища. До речі монетизація цього відео йде на рахунки сортувальних станцій, які працюють на волонтерських засадах.

During tours and concerts, the band continues to try to convey to people the problem of environmental pollution. By the way, the monetization of this video goes to the accounts of sorting stations that work on a volunteer basis.

Минулого року, 21 червня у день літнього сонцестояння відбулась всеукраїнська презентація пісні ZENIT одночасно на головних радіостанціях України о 12 годині. Цей момент вибрано не просто так, Ната бажала поєднати свій музичний зеніт разом із реальним.

Last year, on June 21, the day of the summer solstice, an all-Ukrainian presentation of the song ZENIT took place simultaneously on the main radio stations of Ukraine at 12 o'clock. This moment was not chosen just like that, Nata wanted to combine her musical zenith with the real one.

Сама пісня з'явилась ще у 2018 році та до моменту виходу піддавалсь різним трансформаціям. Ната хотіла створити щось на зразок старих українських веснянок і, мені здається, у неї це вийшло. У фінальній версії можна почути чимало народних інструментів - цимбали, бандуру, дримбу, трембіту. Вже вкотре участь у роботі над піснею гурту взяв дитячий хор.

The song itself appeared in 2018 and underwent various transformations until its release. Nata wanted to create something like old Ukrainian spring flowers, and I think she succeeded. In the final version, you can hear a lot of folk instruments - cymbals, bandura, drum, trembita. Once again a children's choir took part in the work on the band's song.

А тепер трішки про кліп! / And now a little about the clip!

Кліп на пісню Zenit відзняли ще в жовтні, але презентували тільки у грудні, так як за загальним настроєм та образами він вийшов трішки зимовим, хоча навколо все-таки безліч зелених ландшафтів.

The video for the song Zenit was shot in October but was presented only in December, as the general mood and images, it turned out a bit winter, although there are still many green landscapes around.

Режисером кліпу виступив чоловік Нати - Євген Філатов, а дизайнеркою всіх образів - Леся Патока, котра вже неодноразово виступала в ролі художниці по костюмах та дизайнеркою до різних робіт Onuka.

The video was directed by Nata's husband Yevhen Filatov, and the designer of all characters was Lesya Patoka, who has repeatedly acted as a costume designer for various works by Onuka.

Леся Патока втілювала образи не тільки із українських народних костюмів, а і запозичила деякі елементи тибетських та африканських культур. Взагалі, костюми вийшли неймовірно оригінальним.

Lesya Patoka embodied images not only from Ukrainian folk costumes but also borrowed some elements of Tibetan and African cultures. Mutually, the costumes you see are incredibly original.

Кліп на цей раз не ніс в собі ніяких соціальних чи екологічних тем, хоча, якщо залізти в історію створення та за лаштунки зйомок, то можна дізнатись, що для створення образів було використано 15 мішків одягу із київських секонд хендів в знак підтримки споживацької культури.

This time the clip did not carry any social or environmental themes, although if you go into the history of creation and behind the scenes, you can see that 15 bags of clothes from Kyiv second-hand were used to create images to support consumer culture.

Прем'єра кліпу відбулась 9 грудня на "Кураж Базарі" і частину костюмів вирішили використати уже втретє та продали на благодійному аукціоні, котрий відбувся після святкового вертепу. Всі зібрані кошти пішли на підтримку благодійного фонду Таблеточки, котрий займається питанням дитячоїї онкології.

The premiere of the video took place on December 9 at the "Courage Bazaar" and some of the costumes were used for the third time and sold at a charity auction, which took place after the festive nativity scene. All funds raised went to support the Tabletochki Charitable Foundation, which deals with pediatric oncology.
