Mini-Sculptures: Small but Weighty Reasons to Visit Uzhhorod #8 Hallo! (Ua/En)

Хто б міг подумати, що серед міні скульптур можна зустріти "карликові" пам’ятки, котрі не так легко віднайти на вулицях міста через їхній розмір. Так-так, ви правильно все зрозуміли! Є, як мінімум, дві скульптурки, котрі вдвічі менші за своїх "товаришів", що розкидані по цілому місту.

Who would have thought that among the mini-sculptures you can find "dwarf" monuments, which are not so easy to find on the streets of the city because of their size. Yes, you understood everything correctly! There are at least two sculptures that are half the size of their "comrades" scattered throughout the city.

Хто такий Тиводар Пушкаш? / Who is Tivodar Pushkash?

Тиводар Пукшаш народився 17 вересня 1844 року в місті Будапешт та був угорським вченим, фізиком, а також людиною, котра створила першу в світі автоматичну телефонну станцію. Саме цій людині, що зображена на фото, ми завдячуємо в можливості телефонувати куди завгодно та коли завгодно без участі операторів, котрі з'єднували вас з необхідним абонентом.

Tivodar Pukshas was born on September 17, 1844, in Budapest and was a Hungarian scientist, physicist, and the man who created the world's first automatic telephone exchange. It is to this person, who is depicted in the photo, that we thank you for the opportunity to call anywhere and anytime without the participation of the operators who connected you with the required subscriber.

Першочергово Пушкаш працював над створенням телеграфної станціїї, проте коли Александр Грем Белл створив перший телефон, угорському винахіднику прийшлось переглянути свої плани. Для створення АТС він почав співпрацювати з американським вченим Томасом Едісоном та в 1877 році у місті Бостон він втілив в життя першу станцію, а вже в 1879 році його винахід був встановлений в місті Париж.

First of all, Pushkash worked on the creation of a telegraph station, but when Alexander Graham Bell created the first telephone, the Hungarian inventor had to reconsider his plans. He began collaborating with the American scientist Thomas Edison to create the PBX, and in 1877 he implemented the first station in Boston, and in 1879 his invention was installed in Paris.

До речі цікавий факт, котрий я дізналась під час написання цієї статті. Саме Пушкаш є так званим батьком звичного нам слова "Алло", котре використовує кожен без вийнятку абонент. Зі слів очевидця Томаса Едісона угорський винахідник під час тестування телефонного зв'язку повторював слово "hallom", котре з угорської означає "чую".

By the way, an interesting fact that I learned while writing this article. It is Pushkash who is the so-called father of the familiar word "Hello", which is used by every subscriber without exception. According to eyewitness Thomas Edison, the Hungarian inventor repeated the word "hallom" during the telephone test, which means "hear" in Hungarian.

Чому скульптура знаходиться в Ужгороді? / Why is the sculpture located in Uzhgorod?

Однією із причин для встановлення цієї скульптури в Ужгороді став зв'язок між дружиною винахідника та містом. Його дружина Софія Феттер фон дер Лілі тривалий час жила в Ужгороді, а потім переїхала в Будапешт до Пушкаша.

One of the reasons for the installation of this sculpture in Uzhgorod was the connection between the inventor's wife and the city. His wife Sophia Fetter von der Lily lived for a long time in Uzhhorod and then moved to Budapest to Pushkash.

Ще однією причиною є і місце, а вірніше будівля біля якої встановлена скульптура - Королівська угорська пошта в котрій можливість телефонувати з'явилась ще в 1897 році.

Another reason is the location, or rather the building near which the sculpture is installed - the Royal Hungarian Post Office, where the opportunity to call appeared in 1897.

Ця будівля дітище Йозефа Ґочара, який вважається найбільш вагомим архітектором Чехії, дуже відомий у світі, і це велике щастя мати будівлю Ґочара у своєму місті. На жаль на сьогоднішній день оздоблення інтер'єрів будівлі відсутнє, проте і сьогодні тут працює поштове відділення, котре вважається головним в місті.

This building is the brainchild of Josef Gočar, who is considered to be the most important architect of the Czech Republic, very famous in the world, and it is a great happiness to have the Gočar building in his city. Unfortunately, today the interior of the building is not decorated, but even today there is a post office, which is considered the main one in the city.

Яка історія в скульптури? / What is the history of sculpture?

Міні-скульптуру "Hallo" встановили 17 вересня 2017 року. Її відкриття приурочили до 120-річчя появи телеграфного зв'язку в обласному центрі Закарпаття. Тоді вона з'єднувала Ужгород з Будапештом. А саму дату вибрали в честь дня народження Пушкаша. Традиційно автором став Михайло Колодко. До речі, за словами автора біля цієї скульптури обов'язково потрібно подзвонити близьким людям!

The Hallo mini-sculpture was installed on September 17, 2017. Its opening was timed to the 120th anniversary of the appearance of telegraph communication in the regional centre of Transcarpathia. Then it connected Uzhgorod with Budapest. And the date itself was chosen in honour of Pushkash's birthday. Mykhailo Kolodko has traditionally become the author.
